Weird Pokemon Encounter

This has happened to me twice now. Since I defeated Elite 4 and Champion, I've been running around the world, getting more Pokemon, filling Pokedex, battling all the rest of the people I avoided on my way etc and twice I have encountered a wild Pokemon. When the screen fades to black, there's been a star appear and a Level 70 Zapdos has popped up. Then I've waited for something to come up on my lower screen, but the Zapdos flees before I can do anything. I've encountered it once with a level 70-odd Delphox and once with a level 16 Pikachu so the Pokemon I'm using doesn't seem to matter (level-wise anyway). What does it want before I can take it on?

If I ever see it again...

You have to see it about a doze
n times, then it'll fly off to the sea spirit's den where you can fight and capture it

Its more a case of its flying overhead and doesn't bother to notice you.

In all seriousness, you have these encounters 10 times, then it will go to someplace (I forget the name) accessible via Route 12 and Surf. The look on my face when I first saw a Moltres, "Oh cr- what it's gone?" Took me about 5-10 minute to figure it out also.

Serebii says it's 12, and I've played the game 2-3 times where it took 12 times.

I tried finding Zapdos 10 times , went to cave and stood in the middle and nothing. 2 encounter's later , I went back to the cave and stood in the middle and Zapdos swooped down

After 12 times you can check the pokedex and it'll show the bird at the cave too. It attacks you when you enter so make sure to save before.

Yup, I'm just too lazy to track him down. Plus I don't feel like throwing a bajillion of balls at him trying to get him.
