Want to clarify something about the sloppy series(not how to get it)

I know the only way to get these pieces is through retail or the police station. My question is this: your villagers have to put the pieces in the store for you to get them at retail so does that mean the item has to be in their house for them to put it up for sale?
I know none of my villagers, as far as I can tell,have any of those pieces in their homes, so does that mean I have no chance of seeing them in retail unless I get a villager who has them? Or is it random? Thanks

BTW: I have Felicity,Kitty,Lobo,Avery,Sly,Poppy,Cherry,Phil,Clyde and Bigtop. If anyone knows if any of them actually do have any of those pieces and I'm just blind please do inform me. Thanks again.

I have had sloppy pieces show up in retail that my villagers did not have in their homes. So, I think it is random for a sloppy piece to show up.

I had Wolfgang put up sloppy table and he most defintely didn't have it displayed in his house before.

I have Rasher in my town, and today when he invited me over to visit and asked me if I wanted anything in his house, I picked his Sloppy Sofa and he sold it to me for 600 bells. I also got one free once from Rudy, and he did NOT have it in his house already. I have yet to see any other Sloppy pieces anywhere, including the lost and found or Re-Tail.

I was worrying about this question myself for awhile. Yesterday my hubby got a sloppy closet from Re-Tail and his villager did not have it in his home!
