Hi guys, I always wanted to buy some nice japanese fashion from minkyshop.com but I'm unsure because of the measurements [I'm too lazy to go through the trouble to send it back when it's not fitting or to go to the tailor].
For example, when I measure my chest on my body, it's 100cm.
But when I take a normal fitting shirt and measure around the chest, it's only ~90cm.
So does that mean that I can buy stuff that's smaller than 100cm and it would fit?
I actually know that depends on the specific cloth but I can't try it out, so it's a gamble... I'm also worried that the clothes turn out to be much smaller than stated because japanese girls are so thin and small...
there are some things I REALLY like but it's 5~15cm too small here and there...
Is there someone who has experience with that stuff and can give me advice somehow?

I always strip down and then take measures. (However, I've only had to do this once or twice for cosplays. I have almost no experience in this.)

For the first company, I received my cosplay and found that it was too small. (I sent them my exact measurements....)
For the second company, I received my cosplay and it was perfect, if not a tad large.

I assume it depends on the place your ordering from UvU (I was never able to wear my dress that I ordered from the first company. ; a ; $65 down the drain.)

Japanese clothes run extremely small. If you're usually a medium in tops, for example, you have to go for extra large. Take very precise measurements of yourself and compare those to what they provide on the website. I've bought a few Japanese clothes here and there and I always have to go two sizes up for them to fit well. It's mostly a gamble, really.

this is absolutely true. my ex took a trip to japan and bought me the cutest set of panties, but there was some miscommunication or something, and he got what would i guess be a medium to them.

for me, it was like... a small or extra-small, especially due to my rear.

needless to say it was expensive and devastating not to be able to wear it. i know underwear is a little different, but it still applies to pretty much everything. IT'S ALL SO TINY

Use the first figure: you get the correct measurement by measuring the body. I'd advise adding an extra couple of centimetres too. e.g. my bust is 85cm, so I never buy anything below 88cm.

I would advise not to buy from that site. They are "scalpers" who buy the clothes from a Chinese site called taobao. It's very cheap, and much like ebay. But you need a shopping service which is not nearly as expensive as this scalper website. You can easily find the items with reverse image search or I could help you with Chinese keywords. Taobao has lots of japanese influenced fashion for decent prices. I'm not trying to advertise. Just don't support a business like this :c unless you don't mind paying $60 for a shirt. As for the sizes, many clothes are "free size" and run smaller than american sizes. And "m" is the smallest and it means small, not medium. L is medium and LL is large. There's rarely xl. Taobao has some adorable shops with bigger sizes available too. I wish I could give advice but I've never had a problem with sizing because of my height and weight is smaller than average. I would say you'd fit into it but things like sleeves may not cover your wrists if you're tall and it's long sleeve. Sometimes you may experience sleeve cuffs are too tight. This is the only complaints I've had my friends tell me. It depends on the material and if it's a baggy shirt or not ^^

Well, cosplay's a bit different from normal fashion, I guess. I also ordered tailored costumes on different websites and some were here and there a bit too big and here and there a bit too small even though my measurements were precisely. I think it depends on the tailor, everyone makes his stuff in a different way.

Yup, I know that. That's why I'm curious when there's a cute cloth where it's stated that it is 106cm large around the chest because wouldn't that too big for japanese girlies? But maybe this is their oversized-style. When I wear a oversized japanese cloth it would look normal, for japanese it would be oversized xD
The problem is that the most fashion only has "one size" and not xl, l, m, s.
Maybe I'll buy only 1 thing from there to try it out, it would be a pity if I buy 10 things and nothing fits...

Ohh god bless your ex. I always get so jealous when I read someone has already been there... but back to the topic.
I guess it's really better to only buy stuff that's a bit bigger than my actual measurements. It's a bit sad because the cutest stuff is also the smallest stuff but seems like I have to give up.

I measured my body and it said 100cm. My mother also said that it's better to buy stuff that's even bigger than your actual measurements like you said but I don't understand why the shirt with ~90cm fits so well...

Oh, I never heard of taobao. I actually just search for japanese fashion online shops in google and that's what I found and the stuff is nice with not too high prices with a lot of customer reviews, so I thought it's not suspicious at all...
So taobao is in chinese? Isn't it available at least in English? Because my mother wouldn't allow me to buy from a side where I can't read anything :x
About sizing, my body is quite weird. I'm pretty small [~160cm] and that would be size xs or s I guess. But on the other hand my chest would be xl or even bigger >.< And my waist would be m. But I actually can only speak of European sizes here because I've got no idea how Americans handle their sizes. It's a pain in the butt.

Taobao is only available in Chinese. You also can't buy directly from the website from overseas. You would need to go through a shopping service. Googling "taobao shopping service" will bring some up.

Oh, if it's not available in English, there's nothing I can do, my mother won't allow me to buy from there.

The shopping service is in English and they will always auto translate everything on the website. ^^

If you can, try and talk to your mother or someone that knows anything about sewing/crocheting.
They can probably help you a lot more than we can, mostly because they can probably measure you properly, haha.

I do not know anybody who has acknowledge about sewing and I don't think it's necessary to talk with someone about sewing because tailored sewed clothes and clothes made by machine are quite different and I also don't think that someone who can sew would know something about japanese fashion here in my area :p
And I measured myself properly.

But thanks for all your help, guys.
I think I'll just test it, maybe their fashion will suit me or maybe not. I accept the challenge XD
