In August 2007, Crypton released Hatsune Miku, the first in a series of Japanese Vocaloid 2 character voices. Miku was the first in the Vocaloid series to become popular. Soon after the program was released, Hatsune Miku songs became popular on the site Nico Nico Douga. Miku's popularity soon spread across the globe with the help of YouTube. On December 27, 2007, the Kagamine Rin/Len series was released and on January 30, 2009, the Megurine Luka series went on sale. To this day, Hatsune Miku is still the most popular of the series with new songs sung by her being uploaded onto Nico Nico Douga every few minutes.
