So I've had the game for about two months now and have yet to see my villagers talk to each other. Is this now a rare occurrence? I remember constant chatter amongst villagers in WW.

It's a little less common in NL from what I've seen, but they definitely talk to each other!
Just be patient and wait. I've no idea why it isn't happening much for you, but it happens semi-regularly in my town. Just watch the places your villagers tend to hang around (mine congregate near the fountain a lot) and see if you can spot them talking.

Yeah they tend to just walk into each other and keep walking then realize there not getting anywhere and turn around lol

When you see two or more villagers, secretly push them towards each other? xD Hahah
When they do have conversations you might see little speech bubbles with dot-dot-dot or their emotions change.. It's pretty cute :3 except when they make one another mad/angry or depressed @_@

it's pretty uncommon in my town. It's even rarer when I catch them visiting each other.

I think I've seen them visit each others houses once all up in 2 months.
When I push them together, yes i've tried lol, they just stare blankly at each other then walk off in opposite directions.

Yes, it's far less common than in Wild World. Plus the dialogues are a bit more boring (at least that's my opinion). If your villagers leave near others it also helps, as they're more likely to meet. I uploaded some Wild World dialogues in the Wild World section, have a look at them if you'd like! I find them hilarious
