Villager's Interior Design Choices

Can you reset a villagers interior design without getting rid of them?

I've been searching for an answer but I've had no luck.

Recently, a few of my villagers have asked to purchase fish and bugs, consistantly(every other day or so). I needed bells so I agreed. It's gotten to the point where they have 2 to 3 fish/bugs in there home. At this point I've stopped selling to my villagers to avoid their homes from being filled to the brim with bugs and fish.

Has anyone time traveled and saw any change in villagers homes?

You can have someone you trust hold on to the villager and then give them back and might reset the fish and bugs.

One of the funniest things I've seen in this game was that I gave Audie a garden gnome. (I plan on keeping her forever so I'm not worried about messing up villager's I'm keeping forever houses since it really doesn't bother me) She put the garden gnome in her house on her table but she has him facing backwards towards the wall. So it looks like she was afraid of it watching her or something so she turned it to face the wall. I don't think they change unless you give them other items to replace them and they decide to replace the item you want to get rid of. I'm not 100% sure if their houses will reset if you get rid of them and have someone hold them. I think they stay the same. But I haven't tested this for myself.

I did have someone hold one of my starters to get their original home(and it did reset). However, I don't know if it will be different for villager who came later in the game. I guess it's time for a little experimentation.
