Before I begin, this method has not been officially proven to be the factor. It's only a theory, BUT I have evidence that proves it works. A week ago, I posted a thread about how my villagers don't ever sit on my benches. I asked if anyone has the same problem and many people said they did. Here's a reply, that took away all my sadness:

I notice something, but not sure 100% it works this way.

Usually when i left my game going long enough, say i will run to the beaches, and leave the game running when i go and have a meal or something, around 30mins etc... So in total about 2 hours or more non-stop for the game to run...

when i come back i will find villagers engage in more activities, like sitting on benches, talking to each other ( sometimes pissing each other XD) , exchanging clothes etc.... more often.
Just my personal observation.

I tested the method and got amazing results (left my game on while I was at school). Within a hour, there was 3 villager conversations and 4 villagers that sat on a bench/stump.

Pics

I'm so happy... All credit goes to Sidewalk ♥ I hope it works for everyone else!

There's also a theory that villagers only sit on benches that are near "popular" places. The benches I had before I did this method, were at those places...but maybe I was wrong...idk..I'm just glad my problem no longer exists :)

Ooo I should try this... I saw this post last week too - can't remember if I replies to it though haha

Villager conversations work the same way pings do - being offscreen for a certain amount of time can trigger them. May be the same for benches and such.
