Villager won’t wear their new outfit

I gave my villager a sweater and they wore it for a day then never put it on again :c
How do I make it stay on them?
I feel like outfits stayed on better in new leaf hnnn

I think they only wear certain outfits, they have to fit their style or something.

I don't think there's any way to force it. Villagers like some clothes and some they don't, they will wear what they want.

Maybe they wanna change the clothes every so often, who are we to dictate their dress codes?

They might put it on again later on. I had some who only wore it when I gave it to them, but a week or so later, it ended up in the rotation of outfits.

Sometimes it takes a day or two.I sent Sherb some pajamas in the mail but it took him two days to wear them.I laughed because he only wore the top.Those villagers aren't crazy about pants.
