Villager won't move out at all

Ok so literally months ago, Clay moved into my town onto my path, and I heard the best way to get a villager to move out was to ignore them. So I did, not even introducing myself to them. Gave them the silent treatment basically since he moved in, and I think that was my mistake. I've now introduced myself to him on my main character, in case that was what was wrong. But he still didn't move.

So I brought in a second character that introduced himself to everyone, even Clay, and talked to everyone, except Clay. That should've worked, right? It didn't, though. Is it because I play both characters every day? Should I not use my main character at all?

I just want him gone.

repeat until clay pings you to leave

Befriend him and he will ping faster. The more friendship you have with a villager, the most they will ping to leave.

I think the method of ignoring only works if you talk to them once they are in boxes with all your characters and then never again, but I find that taking a long time.

Was he the tenth villager to move in?
10th villagers are sort of "locked" into your town until someone else leaves. So if he's number 10, you need to let a different villager go and then he'll finally leave after that

I can 110% confirm that. Look at my signature, both towns are still played everyday with all 10 still there (I keep denying move requests). Pashmina was my 10th to move in back in 2013, and nearly 1,000 days later she has NEVER given a move notice! I confirmed it with my Japanese town were Genji was my 10th in my Japanese town, and in almost 700 days since moving in, NO MOVE NOTICE EITHER! The 10th NEVER moves unless you start screwing around with it by time travelling, the only way I've seen people get their 10th to move, but if you're legit, sorry, won't ever happen, my two towns are proof of that.

Time traveling speeds up the moving of a villager, but it doesn?t make them more likely to leave. I should know, after all the TTing I did in a failed attempt to get Felicity (my 10th) out.
