so ive noticed that the sales of villagers have decreased steeply and not as active as compared to months back. a thread about selling a T1 villager posted now would probably take up to 1 day or more to find a buyer or no buyer at all where the same thread posted months ago would take at least only one hour to have a buyer who is willing to pay high price for them. some cycling threads are not even active anymore.

Hacks + ACNL is slowly dying out I think
maybe because its a busy time of the year as well

hate to think ACNL is slowly dying but ya, it is.

I think most people have their dreams now so the demand just isn't there. I remember about a year ago when everyone was searching for their favourite villagers. It seems that now people have "finished" their towns and so therefore aren't playing them to get new villagers anymore.

It's kind of sad. It's kind of like ACNL is starting to die out - like the hype is over now that HHD is out.

Its true. I have all my dreamies in both my towns so I don't look for villagers anymore. But I suppose people new to the game or starting again will still use it. Although there probably isn't the same amount of people that still need villagers as there was maybe a year ago.

like everyone else has said, people have their dreamies, acnl is dying and the hacks make people hack villagers instead of buying them.
I think some of the people who don't have all their dreamies yet also sometimes can't afford the tier ones because they're so!!! expensive!! and therefore stay out of those threads but idk

Back when I first joined, tier ones were sold within minutes. Auction threads would usually go on for three to five pages, and even giveaways for tier fives were usually picked up.

I think the decline is due to a lot of things: overpricing for tier ones and twos is a huge one. Since many of those auctions pushed tier one villager prices to upwards of 20mil, those prices became the standard for sales. Loads of players, myself included, couldn't afford those prices and migrated to Tumblr or Reddit to find their dreamies. Buy-outs in auctions and cycling threads also really killed sales, since players who could afford to pay the high buyout price auto-bought their dreamie, which really killed the competition of auctions and closed other players out of the villager buying game.

The over-valuing of tier one and two villagers also lead to the decline in giveaways of tiers four and five (and now to tier three, sheesh). Since many users seek and pay high prices for high tier villagers, most sellers autovoid tier four and five in order to make room for more profitable villagers. But since so many Whitneys, Marshals, and Merengues were sold, tier ones over-saturated the market while at the same time severely decreasing the sales of other tiers. Now that everyone has their tier one dreamies, they've become very difficult to sell. I've seen Whitney, who would've been auctioned for high prices a year ago, be voided now due to low interest.

Idk, there's loads of factors that have gone into the decline in villager sales. The school year, loss of interest in ACNL, etc. But these are my main two theories. ^^"

I would like to get some different villagers, but I like most of the ones I have and the ones I don't really like never seem to want to move. It is kind of annoying.

I'd agree with the notion that it's a combination of most people already having all of their redundant tier 1 dreamies and also the fact that ACNL is very slowly dying (especially now with HHD). I only have one more dreamie left for myself, and after Christmas I'll be getting my little brother all of his dreamies, but after that I won't be looking for any villagers anymore. :/

NX will be out next year (or early 2017, who knows) and I am fairly confident we will get a new proper AC for the system.

ACNL won't die until then, at least not completely.

compared to a few months back, a looooot of people bought an extra copy to create a cycling town, so it's much easier to obtain dream villagers

This as well. My local game shop was selling ACNL very cheaply. ?12 boxed and ?10 unboxed. I bought both copies, one to use as a cycling town and one for my daughter to play.

A lot of people have a spare copy now just to cycle for themselves and maybe sell the high tier villagers when they get them.

I think that school plays into this a lot. Back in August, this forum in general seemed to be much more active, but now threads move a lot more slowly, from what I've seen.

Additionally, the release of HHD + the fact that this game is two and a half years old definitely play a part in the decline in the sales of villagers.

One could also argue that since the game has been out for a while, many people have already obtained their dreamies.

i agree with so many of the said posts above.

i have a cycling town myself and at first i used it to get my own villagers, but now i've had my thread to sell and it's crazy because i've voided like.. 5 T1 / T2 villagers because people just don't want to buy them anymore.
