Villager Duplicating Hypothesis

I think everyone here is aware of the item duplication trick. I'm not going to thoroughly explain it here because item duping is against the rules, but recently I've been wondering if the same works for a villager in boxes.

Say a villager is in boxes and someone invites them to their town and then the trick is preformed. It was like the person never came over and invited them over so more and more people could get the same villager from the same town. Is this possible and has anyone tried?

I'm certainly no expert on duplicating, as I don't really like the idea of it, but isn't it the visitor that disconnects and the host that saves? So the visitor would have no record of ever talking to the villager, while the host's town would think that it moved out. Unless there's another method I'm unaware of...

I know people have tried on gamefaqs. I heard it wasn't successful though.

However, I'd be wary about talking or even trying to promote any kind duplication here. It's not allowed.
