Very conflicted about some of my villagers

So I currently have 3 lazies and 3 crankies on my Island.
My lazies are Zucker, Sherb and Erik. Zucker is my baby so he's definitely never leaving but I also love both Sherb and Erik because of their unique design. However, I can't help but feel that having 3 lazies might be a bit too much as sometimes their dialogue gets a bit repetitive - I feel that esp. Sherb and Erik are carbon copies of each other when it comes to dialogue.

I also have 3 crankies at the moment - Wolfgang, Octavian and Boyd.
I made my peace with letting Octavian go as I don't really click with him.
But I'm having such a hard time deciding between Boyd and Wolfgang.
Wolfgang was one of my New Leaf OG's and a permanent resident there so when I found him on a mystery island I was super happy.
Boyd is not at all popular but he has grown on me so much. I love that gorilla to pieces.
But I know that if I were to keep both, I'd have to sacrifice either Sherb or Erik or lose out on one potential personality which I wouldn't really want.

I even considered buying a physical copy of the game since I have an extra Switch (I'm playing AC on my Lite) but I feel that it's really unjustifiable and keeping up with two islands would probably burn me out and would just not be fun in the long run (and using a spare Island just to hold villagers is probably even more stupid).
I thought of maybe doing rotations of some personalities with the villagers I'm not too attached to with some amiibo cards and Island hopping to at least unlock all the different reactions in the off-chance that Nintendo will allow us to add more villager plots through a DLC update in the future (though I have no idea how likely that even is).

Sacrifice Sherb to the guillotine. If him and Octavian go, I think you'll have enough spots for every personality type yeah? If you're too attached to Sherb or any other one and are willing to put up with excluding a personality, that may be the path best for you. (But personally, I don't like excluding personalities bc I could miss out on some unique interactions between villagers. Thats on me tho lol.)

It's a bit hard since tastes in villagers are completely up to each person. I personally don't care for Boyd at all so I would probably choose Wolfgang over him. As for the lazies... it's really tough. It comes down to Sherb or Erik, I personally like Erik more but that's just a matter of taste. Maybe try to think about your general town theme/aesthetic? Maybe one fits better than the other?

I would only want three of the same personality if they had different interests, for example, I plan on having three normals: Skye (music), Molly (nature), and Poppy (education). I like other normals such as Lily and Fauna, but I narrowed it down to those three because they have different subtypes and I tried to make them as different from each other as possible. Erik and Sherb have the same subtype (nature), so that's probably why they feel extra similar.

Unfortunately, I don't have the amiibo cards for Wolfgang, Erik or Boyd either (the welcome amiibo cards are virtually impossible to find unless you want to sell one of your kidneys) so that makes it harder because I know I might not be able to bring them back should I change my mind.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't let Sherb go because of 1) he doesnt have amiibo 2) you have him on your avatar so you probably like him a lot haha The inviting back is such a hassle, the only amiibo card I own is Static's, but I think this community has a lot of lovely and kind people and it's not that hard to find the villager you want. I don't know... Write the names on pieces of paper, put it all in a bag, shake it and pick one ajkghajkghakj

I'd lose Sherb, but I'm not a big fan of the goat villager design. He's popular because he's rare and because he's one of the cutest/prettiest Lazies. If you enjoy those things more than whatever Erik brings to the table, ditch Erik!

Or, do like I do and get a cheap NFC amiibo sticker for Erik, keep Sherb, and in time, if you really miss Erik, you can bring him back!

Pretty sure I have all of their amiibo cards except Sherb, so I wouldn’t want him to be voided for that reason like you stated.

I would recommend keeping Boyd over Wolfgang, which is actually a strange suggestion coming from someone who's #1 favorite villager is Wolfgang. However, my reasoning behind that is that you've had Wolfgang in New Leaf already, but Boyd could be considered a new experience in New Horizons. Also, you could have a friend adopt Wolfgang (or any of the other lazies you may decide to let go), so that way you could still visit them from time to time?

The rest have cards, even if you don't have their cards enough people do where finding him won't be difficult and not too expensive since all eyes are on new characters.
Plus, goat...deer...I'd say their close enough species wise where I'd sacrifice one of them which again comes to Erik.

You clearly feel sentimental about Boyd so I'd keep him especially since this is your first run with him. You're letting Oct go so there's that and, for Wolfgang, I'd just keep him for the timebeing. Maybe you keep him or maybe once you've had enough time you're ready to let him go and take someone else. Same could be said for Boyd eventually. Nothing really has to be decided quickly. You have plenty of time and a year of events to let people come and go.

I'll probably start looking for the cards for Erik, Wolfgang and Boyd once the COVID-19 situation calms down a bit more. That way - as you said - I could always re-invite them at some point.

you can also try etsy for the fanmade ones. I actually really like the coins because they seem like they'll hold up better and take less space.

I think it really depends on what you value. Do you value character design? Personality? do you care if text is repetitive? I personally value character design, if I didn't I wouldn't have three cranky villagers... to top it off, they're all the same species but I wouldn't change a thing!!!! What I do is, I limit my interactions with them, I'll speak to all of them one or twice a day and that's it!

lol I'm in a similar situation. I want to have raymond, marshal, and julian on my island and they're all smug.
I also want to have zucker, punchy, and stitches and they're all lazy...so I'm (trying to) make the decision to not keep any villager/dreamies
I already had in NL. Which would be marshal and zucker ...zucker is also my baby tho so it'll be hard :c I guess amiibo

I'd honestly get rid of Erik if I were you. I had both Sherb and Erik earlier into my island and I really got tired of the lazy dialogue.. They honestly are the exact same and tbh Sherb is much better. Lazies are just not great in this game imo, just Sherb is more than enough for me.

Crankies, I'd say 2 is fine, since I think their dialogue is a lot more interesting and less stale than lazy villagers. Maybe rotate them out as you get their photos?
