Today is a sad day for USA Government. They shut down everything and no longer will there be anything funded by the government except for a few special things. Here is a list of things the government of USA is closing and keeping open. I want all of you to give your point of view on this.

What's Affected by a Government Shutdown?

Vital services that ensure seniors and young children have access to healthy food and meals may not have sufficient Federal funds to serve all beneficiaries in an extended lapse.

Call centers, hotlines and regional offices that help veterans understand their benefits will close to the public.

Veterans? compensation, pension, education, and other benefits could be cut off in the case of an extended shutdown.

Every one of America?s national parks and monuments, from Yosemite to the Smithsonian to the Statue of Liberty, will be immediately closed.

New applications for small business loans and loan guarantees will be immediately halted.

Research into life-threatening diseases and other areas will stop, and new patients won?t be accepted into clinical trials at the National Institutes of Health.

Work to protect consumers, ranging from child product safety to financial security to the safety of hazardous waste facilities, will cease. The EPA will halt non-essential inspections of chemical facilities and drinking water systems.

Permits and reviews for planned energy and transportations projects will stop, preventing companies from working on these projects. Loans to rural communities will be halted.

Hundreds of thousands of Federal employees including many charged with protecting us from terrorist threats, defending our borders, inspecting our food, and keeping our skies safe will work without pay until the shutdown ends.

Hundreds of thousands of additional federal workers will be immediately and indefinitely furloughed without pay.

Services That Will Continue During the Government Shutdown

Social Security beneficiaries will continue receiving checks.

The U.S. Postal Service will keep delivering mail.

Active military will continue serving.

Air traffic controllers, prison guards, and border patrol agents will remain on the job.

NASA Mission Control will continue supporting astronauts serving on the Space Station.

Please write below your thoughts

P.S. a video that may explain it a little http://nyti.ms/19TKEyK

You forgot a couple services that will continue during the shutdown. The most important in my opinion in fact.

The president and congress still get paid from what I've heard during this time. This would violate one of the amendments in the constitution of the united states of america. They shouldn't be special in comparison to us when it comes to things like this. If we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it. Also, just some advice, don't believe everything the news tells you. Sometimes they don't even tell the whole truth because of various reasons. You have to take things like this with a grain of salt and look at multiple sources, not just one. In general though, this is really bad.

Sounds a bit scary huh. I didn't see this coming, was it like something that was going to happen for a long time or something that's literally just happened over night?

I don't even understand the point of this. Like I get the whole loan thing. That makes sense. But they closed down national parks, muesuems, and even a zoo. Like what does that have to do with anything? It just seems like a waste of time when they need to be focusing on their own problems instead of preventing people from observing pandas..

I heard about that and I was like, "WTF?! How come you people get special treatment?! You guys are the reason why we're in this mess right now! The rest of the country gets screwed over from this bull****."

I also agree that ya shouldn't believe everything you hear in general, and have multiple sources to back it up. I hope it's resolved soon. This is just ridiculous to begin with. -___-

those parks cost a lot to run, and the government doesn't have enough funding for them so they had to close them for now.

I got all this information from USA.gov so i dont think they are still getting paid based on the website.

Once the President signs something into law, it is supposed to apply to everyone.but the President has granted waivers, exemptions, and delays to his allies. House Republicans asked that if delays, waivers, and exemptions to this law were good for some, they should be good for all Americans. But Obama, Reid, and Pelosi said no. House Republicans asked that a specific 2.1% medical device tax, which is causing jobs to ship overseas, be repealed. Again, Obama, Reid, and Pelosi said no.So when neither side can agree i feel that this was a long time coming imo

They are. The site is not going to state it, obviously, because it's a .gov site. It's just stating what it wants to/thinks is necessary to be told. Like I said before, people don't always tell the whole truth.

There's an option...or the Republicans can stop *****ing about helping people without insurance. It's disgusting.

This. Republicans need to get it together, otherwise there won't be a country to run when they win the election.

Same. If the president that's currently in the white house dosen't do anything about this mess we're in by the end of this year, I'm out of this country.

The Republicans arnt the ones in charge, when will the President ever be responsible for his admin,or is it still Bushes fault lol

This is a democracy, dude.. The President literally can't do anything without their approval. They stop him by pushing his ideas away.

Dammit Horus.

Well, the President isn't responsible for this. The House Republicans have been trying to defund the Affordable Health Care Act (i.e. the law that was legitimately passed in Congres, signed into law, and held up as constitutional by the Supreme Court) while funding the rest of the government. Basically, it's a small contingent of people who act like spoiled children. They don't like the Affordable Health Care Act, and therefore, were willing to shut down the government for it. Obama has had nothing to do with the government funding so far. It's the Congress (specifically, the House) that has all to do with it so far.

Pretty much.

this sort of comment is one thing im getting tired of
people wanting to crack jokes when they dont even know

i have a friend who had a trip to the grand canyon or something planned in two weeks and why she found out she was kinda like seriously???? i hope republicans get over it soon. the whole "if i dont get what i want then nobody does" thing gets real old real fast

this is so tiring i mean
so many people are going to be affected by this
this better end soon

I wish I could turn most of Congress into footballs and practice punting. By most, I mean Democrats and Republicans alike, since neither side is willing to compromise.
