Turban Trouble

im trying to fill my encyclopedias, and by extension the museum, but no matter how hard i try, for years i have never been able to successfully find a turban shell. i've always met the correct requirements for one, and i've even managed to find even rarer critters than the turban shell. sometimes i accidentally catch stringfish. sometimes i accidentally find a tarantula.

turban shells though? no. never. not ever. not by accident, not on purpose, not after two or three hours of diving.

does anyone have any tips for finding one? any ways to make the spawning of deep sea critters increase? any tips at all? it's the last thing on my list to dive for. i would really rather not have someone visit my town and donate for me, also. i want to do it myself.

Well, only residents can donate stuff, so it's not like someone can come over and donate it for you.

I'd say scare off the other fish and bugs before you go diving. Also if I remember correctly, turban shells are small and don't move fast while also staying close to the shore. So if you see somethin large and slow out far in the ocean, it's not your shell.

I'm unaware if they can be caught in the island, if so, maybe try there for a bit.

I was having trouble with this one too! They have small shadows, move slow, and only show up from 4pm- 9am. I think they only show up in town and not on the island.

they can't be found on the island. they can be found in the morning before 9am in any season so long as it isn't july.
every time i find something that should be the same size as a turban, it's an acorn barnacle or something i'll try running around near the river to scare off some fish, i hope it works

You can save and continue. When you do that, it resets the bugs/fish/sea creatures in your town. You’ll have a higher chance to get the turban shell you need.

Doing this is a lot faster and more efficient than scaring bugs and fish.

what a good idea!! and especially helpful too, considering my cartridge is sensitive and, with a gentle bump, may dislodge and break the game.

Try hunting for it after 9 pm and before 4 am. The turban shell (small; slow and uniform/straight line movement in ocean) is available from August through May, 4 pm to 9 am, in your town's ocean.

Comparable small shadows (Diving): Sea Grapes, Sea Urchin, Oyster, Turban Shell, Ear Shell, Clam, Pearl, Oyster, Sea Star, Sea Slug, Flatworm, Mantis Shrimp, Sweet Shrimp, Tiger Prawn, Spotted Garden Eel

I haven't played ACNL in a while, but I believe that visitors can't donate to your museum.

Also, I can't remember if you can "Save and Continue" while swimming. If you can't while swimming, head back to the beach and "Save and Continue" there. This seems to help with respawning.
