as i am on both, i have noticed many similarities and differences between both the tumblr animal crossing community of players and the one on this forum here.

has anyone else noticed it? what's different? do you think one is better?

I'm on both and yeah, there are a lot of differences.

The main difference is the mindset towards hacking. People on tumblr are more relaxed about it. Most major giveaways take part with hacked prizes (but the majority let you know ahead of time). You'll see that hacked towns are very, very popular on there.

On TBT, it's obvious most people are against hacking. I'm personally indifferent to it. My thoughts are it's your game, you do what you want with it as long as it's not hurting others.

On tumblr, trades can be a bit of a pain to set up because tumblr doesn't always timestamp when asks or IMs are sent (and there's always a chance the receiver may not get your ask). Because of the large amount of people on there, I'm a little weary doing trades since there's no feedback system like here or Reddit. I've had a few bad experiences with people being less than pleasant, but it's such a small number out of so many positive trades. Pro-tip: don't ever let anyone wander and follow them around if they're in your town. (Meanwhile, that behavior is much less common here.) Also, always ask if the flowers are breedable; if they're hacked, they will not breed unless they're in hybrid bags. Always ask if you're not sure. :)

Most people are pretty nice and pleasant on both tumblr and here. As with any site, there will always be a few bad apples but it's best to pay no attention to them. If there's a bad person on tumblr, people generally try to warn others by letting everyone know.

Overall, both communities are great imo as long as you're following/communicating with the right people. There's a lot of kind mayors on both sites. :)

I agreed with user above

But also I don't like it much because most of their towns
Not all of them are just mainly pink town or just something like that
While mostly here there a bit more creative town

Not saying it's bad it's just for me get boring

Tumblr I always struggled with, I find it much more restrictive and if you break a rule even by accident you are informed straight away. I understand them trying to get everybody to adhere to the rules and all but it's a little bit much, in my opinion.
Much prefer this site for chatting and buying villagers and I find it so much easier to navigate. The people seem friendlier, too. The only time I have ever been scammed while playing ACNL was from trading with somebody from tumblr. I know they won't all be scammers and I know scammers exist on this site, but I just feel better protected from it here. Plus we have the wifi rating system.

I still use tumblr occasionally when I'm trying to find a villager and having no luck here but I'm really wary of trading with people on there now, unfortunately :(

I've been on Tumblr before, I certainly sense differences in the communities.

I've never tried buying a villager off of Tumblr, so I don't have experience with that. Though, I've certainly heard tales of all the scammers.
However, on here, it feels more secure (Wi-Fi ratings and all). I find most, not all Tumblr ACNL players have similar towns, too. Y'know, the pastel, the cutesy look.
Tumblr is also more lenient towards hacking (as Sirena said). I don't mind it. Play how you want to.
Overall, sites will have the pros and cons. Personally, I prefer it here. :)

I use to be on Tumblr but I found it harder to trade and find stuff so I made an account here :)

i prefer tbt, mostly because it's a lot easier to trade for items/villagers on here than on tumblr

I've found that the trading/buying/selling community is a lot more coherent and quick on this website, but I've also seen way more drama on this website in terms of the socializing aspect.

I do not trust Tumblr. So I think TBT has a better AC community. They have wi-fi ratings, better organization, and not as childish members. There are also other problems with Tumblr, but I won't even go into it since that's not AC related. But I heard how bad the AC community is there too.

I find it easier to find patterns and guides on tumblr just because of how their tag/search works, but it's much easier to facilitate trading/selling here.

this site is better for animal crossing related stuff because it is made for animal crossing alone. it is easy to talk to other mayors, trade, buy, sell etc. on tbt because it is a website made for that cause. I love tumblr and use it myself but if I'm doing anything animal crossing related on tumble it definitely wouldn't be to buy, sell, trade etc. merely because I prefer to do it on tbt. I love love loooveee the town's on tumblr though they are magical ♡

Both sites have great people and I check both often, but I will only do trading and selling on here.

Tumblr is definitely more risky because there's no feedback, and people tend to respond more slowly. But I've never had an issue trading on tumblr at all. Everyone has been polite and friendly. But someone DID steal the base for one of my pixels, clumsily pixel over it, then watermark it as theirs, ultimately getting thousands more notes than my original did. So there's that.

The only other negative experience I've ever had was on tbt, actually. Someone literally yelled at me because I took too long to pick up my villager (I had to drive from one place to another and it took about ten minutes). Then, when I offered a lot of tbt as a tip while mentioning that I barely understood tbt, they didn't point out that I was basically giving them a TON of the more sought after currency on here- I would have said something if it were me, definitely. Sorry for complaining so much, but I'm still a little miffed about that experience.

I mean I've never seen the tumblr acnl community, but I was literally just thinking about making one. So who knows, maybe I will be both someday.

The difference is one is a blogging website with a loosely based community while one is an actual forum, lol

That isn't what I meant which I am very sure is evident in the original post.

I mostly was referring to the difference in attitude regarding hacking and duping products and unorderables. I had a Tumblr before I had an account on this forum and though most have very different opinions regarding it I was observing the differences. I was curious as to whether people who have both (a profile on TBT and a Tumblr ACNL blog) are more likely to be pro-hacking/duping or against it, and if people who went from Tumblr to TBT are more likely to be for it as well. I know it is against the rules in this community which I respect, and I thought it was interesting that while everyone believes that it ruins the purpose and fun of the game here, it is almost unheard of to not have a hacked town or items that have been duplicated for furnishing purposes on Tumblr.
