I have looked on line for information but there are s many instructions, I have not been able to sort out which bits and pieces I want or need.

I have a 3DS XL with the original SD card
I have a new 3DS XL with the original micro SD card
I have a new larger capacity micro SD card
a card reader for the PC with micro SD adapter

What I ultimately want is to have the new micro SD card in the new 3DS XL with all my files from mo old 3DS XL. There is supposed to be a game with the new one (Tri-Force) but I do not see it on the screen so I suppose at some point in the process I download it.

I have only a few downloaded games on the old one.

I think I would like to do the transfers via PC since I am afraid the wifi connection falters and I lose data.

Where do I start - which operation goes first? I have found several links but am not sure which instructions apply to what part of the process or if they are ones I need at all.

I could use some guidance as to which steps should be taken in which order.

Thanks

With both systems off, the first thing I did was copy the data on the normal SD card on to my computer's desktop, and then from there, I used the adapter to transfer that date into the new microSD card which was also one of those higher capacity ones.

I believe I left the original microSD it comes with in the new system while the transfer was going on. The system asks you if you're going to be transferring the data yourself, OR if you're going to have the system transfer deal with the SD card data as well.

I told the system I would do it myself, and once everything was transferred, I turned my system off, popped off the back of the New 3DS XL, and put the high capacity microSD in. No problems on my end and I've had this for nearly a year.

Thank you. That seems so much more straightforward than I had expected. Well, I will give that a try either tonight, or in the morning when I am more awake. I am looking forward to the new system, my much-loved pink 3DS is on its last legs.

Congratulations! I'm glad everything went smoothly.

I'll be having to do this myself soon, though it's easier from N3DS to N3DS haha. ;;
