In the end, once I'd finished boggling at the weirdness, shutting off my 3DS and taking the cart out and in fixed it.

Weirdly enough, I could equip anything just fine. It just wouldn't show up. I went fishing and everything. XD

This is my secondary copy and I recently restarted the game, so I wasn't *too* concerned. Mostly amused like you guys. I'm going with the dust particle theory.

Yeah, there was probably just some dust or a loose connector if everything was fixed when you took the cart out. But oh my God those photos are absolutely hilarious. I love how it looks like your... uh... torso is pointing in different directions depending on the picture.
