So these things are becoming increasingly relevant as more companies start to give this market a shot. Amiibo are pretty popular and get a lot of attention around here, so I was just wondering if anybody plays or collects any of the other similar things that are out there or whether this whole craze is pretty much limited to Amiibo.

So far we also have Skylanders and Disney Infinity, with Lego Dimensions releasing in a few months to take up even more precious shelf space in a game store near you, so we're not exactly stuck for choice when it comes to little plastic figures with NFC chips in them!

If you like them, which games or figures do you like the most? What specifically do you like about a certain one? What others would you like to see, or what figures would you like to see added to an existing game?

Or do you not like them? Are they a waste of money? Do you think that they're a bad trend and just as bad as some other forms of DLC? Do you hate them yet don't posses any willpower so end up buying them anyway, like me?

At the risk of this turning into another "post your amiibo" thread, post your 'collections' if you want. It would be nice to see whether people are just buying a few figures they really like or trying to collect them all.

- My (current) collection -
- Diddy Kong
- Donkey Kong
- Kirby
- Link
- Samus
- Sheik
- Splatoon Boy
- Splatoon Girl
- Yoshi
- Zelda
- Disney -
- Buzz Lightyear - Toy Story
- Jessie - Toy Story
- Merida - Brave
- Mike - Monsters Inc
- Stitch - Lilo & Stitch
- Sulley - Monsters inc
- Vanellope - Wreck it Ralph
- Woody - Toy Story
- Marvel -
- Ironman
- Spiderman
- Venom

I personally like Disney Infinity more as a whole. More so because it has an entire game built solely for them rather than just being something you scan once and put on a shelf. It's also made in such a way where it feels a lot more like the figures have 'come to life', which is nice.
Plus I can play with a friend, having Stitch and Thor battle around the hybrid city/jungle we built :)

Amiibo. I hate Skylanders because it ruined the original series, Disney sucks, and LEGO? Really?

I was never that into Spyro, so it ruining that doesn't really matter much to me (is Spyro even in it anymore or have they got rid of him entirely?). Some of the figures for it look pretty cool but I've never really looked into what the game itself is like or what the figures really do.

Yea, a Lego version is a thing now, I don't plan on getting it though. It looks to be the same as Disney Infinity but with Lego and more expensive. I'll likely just pick up the occasional minifigure of characters I like with this, especially since 'Back to the Future' merch is otherwise rare to come across.

Amiibo currently, but if I can find any cheap used Skylanders figurines, I might pick a couple of the dragons up purely for my dragon collection.

So Amiibos, in general, get higher focus from me.

They remind me of a Neopets/Webkinz sort of thing except with video games. I definitely do not think they're a waste of money. If I thought so, I'd be a major hypocrite because I collect anime figures. xD I actually think the Amiibos are pretty well made, especially for the price of them. I'm surprised at how popular they are though! Like it's crazy! Never expected it!

I'm not interested in buying them though because they aren't for games I play. Pretty much the only reason. xD

With Skylanders basically you need the toys to play. Put them on a thing, you have to keep that thing balanced the whoooooole time, and then you can play. You can't do anything without them.

The original was "Spyro's Adventure" but now it basically has no spyro. Heck, it doesnt even put him in the starter pack anymore.

Oh man, when Skylanders first came out I was all over it. I was working at Walmart at the time and managed to buy the game and a few of the figures and play it about a week before it released. At that point I wasn't too impressed with the game itself but the whole concept of using figures to put new playable characters in the game was really appealing to me.

I passed up all of the Skylanders games until Trap Team came out and got back into it and had a much better time with it than I had originally.

Disney Infinity is fun too. Haven't gotten to play any of the playsets but the toybox mode is pretty fun, sort of like Disney Gmod. Only have a few figures for that game and a couple of them are Kaiaa's. I'll probably play it more when the Star Wars stuff comes out for it.

Amiibos are meh. I've got the Mario Party 10 Mario figure, Smash Yoshi, and the three Splatoon figures but you can't really do much with them right now. Whenever Yarn Yoshi comes out they'll be a little more appealing to me but right now they're just collecting dust.

Lego Dimensions is a thing? I have not heard of it. So i'm going to vote for all except for Lego Dimensions cause they are all my favorites, and had no idea that Lego Dimensions was like that.

I never actually thought someone else would play Skylanders and Disney Infinity besides me. Nice to know.

Keep it balanced? Is the stand not very stable or something, or do the figures tend to fall over?

That's probably the best and most accurate description of DI I've seen so far xD

Your box of figures reminds me of the boxes of random toys I used to have as a kid *nostalgia kicks in*.

I've never had any problems with balance with the Skylanders. All of the stands are flat surfaces and the latest one even has a raised ring around the edge so they wouldn't be able to fall off even if they were unbalanced.

And yeah lol. I don't really have room to put them all on my shelf so I just put them all in a box and pull it over whenever I decide to play. My game boxes are like that too.. lol. It sort of bugs me when things are super organized so I like to just stack or pile related things into boxes together.

They have handheld versions, and its quite difficult.
As far as I know, they sometimes aren't stable.

Don't really see where you're getting that impression. The handheld versions come with a stand too, though it's quite smaller since it doesn't support more than one player.

If they used something akin to how amiibos work via the MFC in the controller, I would say that it's really dumb to have it work like that but they've always used a stand, even with the Wii U.

Heck, I'd buy some Disney Infinity figures without playing the game.
I always see the Donald figure whenever I'm in a store and it looks great. A 10/10 figure.

I just wanna know when they're gonna make a figure of Scrooge McDuck.

None of them really interested me until I got Disney Infinity for my nephew to play when he stays with me. Surprisingly enough I really love that game. I didn't get it until a few months after 2.0 came out so I missed a lot of the 1.0 figures. However, I've ordered quite a few online. We actually have every figure out of the 2.0 collection except for Ronan, Yondu, and Crystal Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey(which I don't care for the crystal figures). The toy box mode is really fun, especially with my nephew. He's only 6 and most of the time we fight one another. I also love how the characters actually have some interaction with one another too. Like how Venom will say to Rocket Raccoon about how he's never met one of his species before and Jasmine asking Aladdin if he's running from the palace guards.

As for Skylanders I don't know much about it or any of the characters so I wasn't as impressed with it.

My nephew LOVES LEGOs so I'll probably end up getting the LEGO Dimensions for him. I actually think it looks pretty interesting because it's basically going to bring together characters from a bunch of different movies/books.

As for amiibos, I was pretty stoked when I heard about them, but then when I realized there wasn't an actual game for them I became less enthused. Also, I don't like the idea of using them to make a particular fighter in Smash better or as a gimmick to get exclusive items. For example in the case of Splatoon, the game is already $60 and then I'm expected to spend an additional $13-35 to buy a plastic toy to unlock exclusive gear. Even with that in mind I'll still probably end up getting them at some point because I think they are pretty cool looking.
