Its not too late, if you're looking to catch them all, or trying to make a competitive team. You need friends for the friend safari after all if you're going for the competitive side or trying to catch them all. Trading works too.

Its ok. If you go to Pokecommunity and ask for friend codes just to go to friend safaris (And battles) They'll be glad to accept your friend request. You can do this on Reddit too, but haven't found the place for it, tho.

Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have a bit more to do, with the Secret Bases, new Mega Evolutions, and all that. Though, neither ORAS or X & Y have much post-game to speak of.
That said, I tend to enjoy Pokemon X & Y more. X & Y allows you to customize your trainer in terms of hairstyle, skin color, and clothing. You're allowed to work at a hotel to earn money to buy stuff like the aforementioned clothing. The region is fun to explore, looks great, and everything in the game generally feels tied together nicely. I'm also a fan of the rivals giving you a nickname that you have the freedom to choose.
Hopefully you can find a discount soon.

Yeah I know, but the thing is I already played the original ones so I want to try a new experience. I haven't tried a single new game since Diamond and Pearl!
It's never too late. You can interact with people who have Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. In my opinion X and Y are better. I can add you if you'd like

X+Y is cool but after you beat the game you have absolutely nothing to do i would rather get ORAS

I would say wait for Pokemon Z to come out, but in the mean time, I do reccommend picking up X & Y around this point and even ORAS.
Is it certain that Z will come out? Because in that case I would wait for it and get ORAS in the meantime.

I'd say it's not too late to play X or Y. There are still plenty of people who play it and are still willing to trade (including people on here), plus you can trade with ORAS too. Like other people said though, apart from collecting a few random pokemon you missed around the world, the post-game is pretty dull compared to ORAS and even more so the older Pokemon games.
I would get X/Y instead of ORAS. So many more Pokemon and a much more immersive world! It's definitely not too late - I'm replaying it for the 3rd time right now :>
