So where is the mum?

My theory is that she probably died.

I think Timmy and Tommy are actually Nook's nephews. So most likely, he's still single. But then the question is who's Nook's sibling? And why does he take care of Timmy and Tommy and not that sibling?

This could work, as in some parts of the world, anyone who takes care of you is your auntie or uncle. So they'd still call him "uncle" and he'd still call them "nephews"
