Tom Nook not asking to see critters?

I've gotten the fishing rod and the net. I've caught five things to show him. But the option to show Tom critters isnt there.

We were playing in couch multiplayer and the second player got the option so he can no craft the axe. But even after I leave the session and try to go in alone the option to show Tom the critters and advance the DIY recipes doesn't show. Am I missing something or will I just not be able to craft the axe?

after you give him 5 things, he'll tell you that Blathers will move into your island. you have to wait tomorrow for him to come. Nook won't accept anything else after those 5

But the option to show him things isnt showing up for me. Even if I enter the game as single player

It showed up for the other player. So Blathers will come tomorrow.

But along with him you also get the DIY recipes for the axe for example and since I cant give him critters I cant get the recipe for the axe.

I haven’t gotten that option either. Is the person that started the island considered the “main” player you think? And have you found any solutions?

If you're not the Resident Representative, you won't be able to get that option. You'll need your main resident to talk to nook and turn everything in.
