Is there such thing as too much intelligence? Is it possible to know so much that it is dangerous for yourself and those around you?

Are Americans getting too smart for their own good? Do you think we're overly confident about all the knowledge we've been gaining in the past few years?

What do you guys think?

Yeah, we were use to being kings of the world, so we got lazy. And our competitiveness has plummeted.

The entire world is full of lazy slobs that wouldn't last a day fending for themselves out in the wilderness like our ancestors did.

I think there is a thing as too much intelligence, which obviously the government is hiding away from us or at least doing the best they can to keep us ignorant about. Too much intelligence can obviously lead to danger. I don't think American [citizens] are getting too smart for their own good. Like I said, there are a lot of things the government knows that we don't know. Secret agendas, secret information, etc that they keep locked up and away from their people. You can't always tell everyone everything. Kind of how Odysseus didn't tell his men about Scylla and Charybdis, because he didn't want them to go into panic, just apply that to us. If we knew everything people would go into panic. Ever heard the saying "the truth hurts"? Some people would rather not know, and it's in the government's best interest that they don't know.
I'm not too sure about the overly confident part. We know a lot but not that much that we should be overly confident, there are still things we have yet to discover.

As for American citizens, too much intelligence is probably nonexistent to them. Like Mega said, America is now filled with lazy sloth like people that would die if they had to live in a post apocalyptic world or you know, something like that. We've evolved to be nothing like the nomads of our past and we're not capable of fending for ourselves in the wild now that we've become adapted to modern technology and such.

I was reffering to the entire world, and I thought the stereotype was that americans were dumb, not smart. :veryhappy:

Another epic post :P

And yeah, people are so fat ass nowadays they can't be arsed to get up and get a drink from the sofa in front of the T.V. Imagine them having to walk 8 miles just to get to school, and back in the early 18/19th Century.

Well, I guess you can apply that to the entire world but there are still countries out there with people that have to do things like our ancestors had to. I just applied what you said to America itself. And yeah, that is the American stereotype, and I agree. We are dumb, but our government knows more than we do.

One of the reasons why Area 51 is so secret.

People were doing a radio skit on aliens and a lot of people thought it was real and went into panic.

We don't have too much intelligence, I would like to know what it in area 51, I am not afraid, unless they are carnivorous lizard beings with highly advanced weaponry.

My sister is a great example of that.
Genius IQ, but didn't do well in school. Aced all tests, never did homework.
Geniuses are generally messed up in the head in other places, though.
Such as Albert Einstein.
