So im starting a new town and I have no clue on what should look nice for a layout what villagers I should get etc.
So can anybody help me out?

It's all about personal preferences really =)

I prefer my Retail relatively close to the Train Station, so that if I have visitors that want to sell Premium item or Turnips, they can make quick trips. This is because I play relatively lot online and I like people visiting me. Otherwise, having a Retail near the docks is also easy since then you can more easily sell fish and stuff you bought from the island.

I prefer my Town Hall and Plaza to be relatively close together, and on the top side of the map, just because I think it is convenient and it looks nice :D

Some people also look for a open space near the waterfall, so they can place their house there and landscape around is (because if it is silent in the house, you can hear the waterfall if you're close to it).

Villagers also is a complete personal opinion. What do you like, do you want all personalities (for suggesting PWPs)? Do keep in mind that even if the starting villagers of a map are not likeable to you, you can always have them move out.

I hope this helps a bit =) I would say, take few tries while resetting, try walking in some maps and look if the layout feels right to you. I did this while resetting a few days ago and got to know what I wanted that way.

I had this problem with my town map too when I started a second town because I didn't like my first one. I recommend looking around some dream towns to get some inspiration.
I agree with Melyora except for one thing. In my opinion you don't need to worry about is villagers and their placement because that can always be changed. You can wait for them to move out (or not if you're a time traveller) and there's always villager plot resetting when the new ones move it.

There's a lot of aspects to think about when thinking of your town layout. :)
For example, the river shape, whether you want the ocean to run up the left or right hand side of the map, whether you want the secret beach or not etc. It's a good idea to think about your landscaping, will you want winding paths that take up a lot of spaces? PWP near water? Do you want your mayors house is a specific place? I actually got the idea for mine from another dream address I visited and I have no idea I wanted it until I saw it. I have the river at almost an upside down U shape and my mayors house sits up at the top of the U, with lots of trees, bamboo, flowers and bushes lining the sides of the U, which I love the look of.

Also, one of the things that annoyed me, was that the colours of the train station and town hall interiors changed everytime I started a new town, this cannot be changed. You can always change the exterior but I hate the brown colour of my train station so that's another thing I would commend you think about if you want. :)

Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

When choosing a map, you can take what's most practical into account. It seems like you've played the game before, so you already have an idea of which buildings you visit most and what would be an efficient placement for you. Some people also take landscaping into account because cliffs and ponds can make a difference to it. There are even people who reset for things like specific grass types. If you don't have a strong preference, you can just choose any map that looks good to you.

The villagers don't matter much. Unless you want to reset several times for the perfect combination of map and starting villagers, the map is more important. You can move out villagers later and you only start with a few so it's not a big deal. There are no better or worse villagers, only the ones you like, unless you want to try to get valuable villagers to trade.

When choosing villagers, just pick the ones you like best. There are very few personalities and each one has pretty much the same dialogue for all villagers, so many people (like me) try to have at least one of each to get more diverse dialogues. That also helps getting more PWPs. You'll still have to repeat personalities so you can choose which ones you like best. Some people don't care about that at all and don't mind repetitive dialogues. Most of your choice is based on villager designs and houses, anyway. You can have a theme or just choose the ones that you think look nice. :)

Just remember that you can always reset if you hate your map and your villagers, and there are no good or bad ones. There's just your personal preference and what makes the game more fun for you.

Oh! 'Pond & Rock Placement Guide.' A worthwhile visual guide!

This... is... awesome. I had no idea. Great post!

I was about to post to warn about too many ponds. I have like 4 or 5 and it really really makes my town feel crowded so I was going to warn against that. Also, I have a lot of rocks. Again, they totally get in the way. Minimal rocks. Makes smacking them daily easier anyway.
