I regularly time travel inside a week or so. This is usually find good turnip prices or to move along a construction or relocation project. I am considering traveling five months back to the cherry blossom season. This is to get both blooms and DIY‘s. is there any risk to doing this? What has your experience been?

personally, i've never time traveled (tempted to for this rock garden though, holy moly) but i've read that a few glitches can occur due to it. a forum on reddit i read had a user who lost one of their villagers unexpectedly; they just started their move process and they attempted to time travel to prevent that from happening. the villager disappeared entirely, and then when they found them again, their entire relationship had been wiped back down to 0. other than that, i haven't read too much about consequences, other than the usual memes of skipping forward.

if you do end up doing such a big skip, would be interesting to see your results and if it goes smoothly.

Hi the villager not remembering you is actually normal and not a glitch! That person made the mistake of TT when the villager was in the process of moving out (once they’re in boxes you can’t undo the process) and fast forwarded them leaving.

the villagers you find on the NMT islands are brand new, so it doesn’t matter if you had them or not bc they’re all blank slates

also to answer the question, you probably should be okay but you’ll end up with a lot of weeds and flower overgrowth. Plus full mailbox potentially and cockroaches in your house

oh, the post i was reading had stated that it was after TT that their villager had just decided to move out on their own. so i wasn't sure if TT is what caused the move out to begin with or not. either way ^^; still very interested to hear if such a large time frame of travel would interfere with anything at all.

Yeah I think the initial moving out part was a glitch or they had a glitched villager but the rest of it is normal !

I think I can handle everything but the cockroaches! Seriously, thanks for the advice. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

no villagers don’t move out unless you tell them they can, and you don’t lose friendship points by being gone a long time or ignoring your villagers.

except for the flower and weed explosion, and the cockroaches, and the fact that time traveling always seems to take longer than you expect (but that might just be me), there are no big ill effects I know of.

The only "con" would really be potential glitches, most of which have been patched (i.g. if you tt after inviting someone to replace someone from the campsite, the villager who would move in, their house interior would be the same as the old villager's house, if that makes sense)
another thing that isn't really a con but some people don't like is how the villagers are all sad that you've been gone and often times the thought bubble appears above their head. : P

I used to time travels by months at a time while gathering my dreamies and using the campsite method, and often time travel day-by-day to buy things from the nook shopping app when I'm furnishing my island or house (wish we could order more than 5 things at a time 😩). I don't mind the weeds since they're easy to pull out, or the cockroaches since you just have to step on one every time you enter your house until they go away so you don't really need to go out of your way to get rid of them.
By my biggest issue is the flower overgrowth. I've started putting blank custom designs on all my paths and around my trees so flowers won't spread there cause its a pain to dig them out, find a trash can / sell them at the store, and then dig more out. The mailbox filling up is a pain too but at least that includes gifts from mom and villagers so that's a plus.
And I personally haven't experienced any glitches while time traveling (although I make sure not to time travel backwards after a villager moves in).

The most that I time travel is two days back, though I tt forward or backwards a day and then when done, I tt back to the regular time. If i had tted two days back, I move back to the correct date one day at a time.

My Pros: I'm an impatient person so for me it was great when working on my town. I also like when other people do it because they can provide goods and services very quickly or readily.

My cons: Ruined the experience for me, ruined my Nook Mile stamps, and I had a weird guilt deep down since there are some people who really despise time travel.

In the end I reset my Island and I stopped time traveling for good. I don't regret restarting or giving up time travel one bit, and I have no negative opinion about it other than the fact that it has caused such a rift between players in the past. Some people are for it, against it, or indifferent. I would say that I am pro time travel even if I don't practice it in my game.

OK I did it. I traveled back in time to spring. All went well. Everyone was right about the weeds and the cockroaches, but no big deal. I even got a laugh out of the little cockroach spirits rising up to the sky after you crunch them. Bonus is that you get the bed-head hairdo added to your new look options. I also found that none of my villagers had missed me. Maybe they adjusted that? or maybe they just didn’t miss me. 😳)

biggest downside, was it after all the work of going back in time and spending quite a bit of time running around trying to get cherry blossom DIY‘s. I got nothing but eggs. Oh well I’m glad I experienced it just to see what it was like.

thank you so much for your update! i'm glad there were no negative effects with your villager relationships <3

maybe because you went back in time, it didn't make them miss you? i honestly have no idea how that came to be. that hairstyle seems interesting enough to try it out though o:

ah yeah if you go back in time, your villagers won’t miss you only when you skip more than 5 days forward! sorry to hear you didn’t get much but eggs 😔 bunny day truly ruined the cherry blossom season

I time travelled ahead several months, then back to the current day and the worst that happened was a good chunk of weeds and a new messy hairstyle that I love and cockroaches...oh and your villagers will wonder where you were or if you were mad at them so your friendship level will be low again. This was my experience. I went from August to October, then to February, then back again.
Also when the game first came out my friend TT'd to July then back to March with no issues as well.

I've recently come back fron travelling two in game years doing the campsite roll for Raymond.
I ended up in 2022, but got him, then went back to the real date and year, and apart from a couple of weeds and a crapload of mail (THAT was hellish), there were no negative effects.

Nobody left, and to them, it was still the same day. It was as though I never left. :)

I’ve personally never had problems with time-traveling forwards and backwards. I do it ALL the time, lol! I’ve heard others having problems with neighbors not showing signs of moving and then get really sad once the neighbor leaves without notice. I’m not worried about it though, because I have Amiibo cards of all my dreamies. 😝

Time traveling in New Horizons is WAY less anxiety inducing than New Leaf. Nothing breaks that you can’t fix ie cockroaches weeds and flower explosions as mentioned. I think if you want to go for cherry blossoms, go forward to that season in 2021? because egg day won’t even be turned on. Pretty sure if you go back it’s still on.

I usually go day by day to progress stuff, but I’ve done some hecka forward and back for the sake of seasonal things.
