So...I am missing the scorpion and bagworm from my catalog and museum.

I haven?t really time traveled, but I have gone to other towns where the season is different to finish the fish and diving catalogs.

What risk do I have time traveling twice, grabbing the bugs, then returning to today? I like my townsfolk and their home locations, and I don?t like/use paths in my town.

I also don?t play every day, but have been pretty invested the past couple of weeks.

What are your thoughts?

Depends on how you time travel. If you travel the whole thing at once, you'll probably have one villager move out per longer period.

I've heard that if you wait for a villager to ask to move out, decline their request and then immediately quit, it will stop villagers from moving out if you don't play for a long time (which TT'ing would essentially be). I'm not sure if it actually works, but what you could do is try that, change the time from the 3DS System Settings, and then start with a new character in ACNL, like you would do for plotting villagers. If all your villagers are still there, then plot the new character, and you'll be able to start normally after that (and delete the new character, if you don't need them). Then repeat all that when you TT for the second bug.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to TT a few days at a time to make sure your villagers don't move out. A villager will move out 10 days from when they decide to move out, so you could TT anything below that. I would still go for a few days less, just to make sure you can get them to ping you, so maybe a week or so at a time.

Also, don't forget that TT'ing back will count as a day passing, so if a villager wanted to move out the day after the last day you TT to, they'll move out when you TT back.

Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I guess I really need to weigh my options versus my patience!

The best way to do it would be to stop a mover and time travel back to winter for the bagworm. It counts as one day. Try to land on a day that isn't an event or a birthday. It's hard to get a ping when those events happen. The bagworm is a quick bug to get.
Make sure everyone is happy and than you can time travel back to summer for the scorpion. Again it counts a one day when you go back in time. Check in with your villagers to make sure everyone is happy.

It can take awhile to get the scorpion. Once you get catch the bug play day to day until you get a mover. Make sure to talk to all 10 villagers before you jump back to real time. Avoid landing on a holiday, event or birthday. When you arrive find the rumor mover. A villager should be trying to leave with that big of a jump. Once you find the mover stop them and than make sure to talk to all 10 villagers. One time I forgot to talk to all 10 villagers. I stopped the mover and the next day I had a rumored mover. That was a villager that I didn't speak to the day before.

Jumping ahead from March to July to get the scorpion isn't a good idea. I jumped ahead 3 months in my spare town and found the rare bugs and rare fish stopped spawning for 5 days. Just found crickets and regular fish during that time. Jumping ahead two times is risky. Going back twice and than only doing one large jump is less risk.

Thanks for the suggestion, Stitchmaker!

An update: I did indeed jump forward in time to grab the scorpion, but after three nights of searching I have not found one yet! I've only seen a single tarantula as well. But if jumping ahead a few months causes rare bugs to not spawn for a few days, I may need to do another two day jump forward and see what happens.

When I have the scorpion, I'll go back in time to the winter to grab the bagworm with your suggested action of talking to everyone after getting the ping. Thanks so much for the detailed note--very helpful.

For the scorpions and tarantula hunting I played with the villagers until I was sure no one was moving.
Save/quit and than time travel to 2am and played till 4am. Most of the time I found one of those bugs.
At 4am I save/quit and time travel to daytime and talked to the villagers to make sure no one was moving. Save/quit.

The next day when I played I changed the clock to 1am or 2am and played till 4am. Left it on the date that Isabelle said it was on.
Than I jumped to daytime and played with the villagers to make sure no one was moving.
Repeat this each time I played. It's easier to see the bugs when you hunt them first thing.
I got lucky and found the bugs on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd night of hunting.

Real question: If I chop down all my trees, that makes the odds of the scorpion appear since there won't be any moths/beetles?

I've seen posts where players have got them by chopping everything down.
I did find it easier in a new town that didn't have a lot of PWP and flowers.
A couple of months ago I was able to get a tarantula and scorpion for 3 players. It was full developed town with lots of trees and PWP. In spots where I saw them spawn I removed some trees and a few pathway tiles so I could get an easier view. Took 3 nights and they got their scorpions.

Good days to hunt are when you get a catch a scorpion for 2 whole coupons. Noticed they spawn more and easier to catch. One player had that coupon and they caught the scorpion. Sent out another player that didn't have the coupon and they got it. Think the game spawns more when a player has that coupon.

Personal i’d say be patient. You have a huge time span to obtain the scorpion during summer to fall. Avoid having huge tree farms or loads of flowers as they can blend in and nab you by surprise. It’s basically the same as the Turantula.
