I've only been playing New Leaf for 3 months. I run the town of Savioli as Spagheto, a mayor with a horrible fashion sense and pretty much just a horrible town.

This town is pretty much BAD. It's #1 main problem is the layout. I would LOVE to add more public works projects and cute decor to make the town look pretty, but it's just IMPOSSIBLE to do.

There are rocks EVERYWHERE, there's no space to put PWPS because of how much space the lake takes up in my town, and every villager's house is in somewhat of an inconvenient spot for putting out PWPS and paths. There are dirt patches everywhere, only about 2 public works projects, and it's just horrible all around.

My villagers are Groucho, Opal, Moose, Nate (Moving out on the 16th), Bertha, Puck, Tutu (Never talked to her), O'Hare,
and Lily. I've climbed up the friendship ladder with some of them, and some of them I wish I would.

The main thing I'm worried about is Main Street. My main street isn't looking too shabby. It has most of the shops unlocked in it.

I've unlocked Leif's garden store, Kicks, Shampoodle, Club LOL, the Dream Suite, Super T&T, and the second museum floor. All I really need are 2 more Nookling upgrades and Katrina's fortune shop ((I haven't visited Katrina much, so that won't be coming any time soon)). I also have the Bell Boom ordinance active, meaing Re-Tail has 2 premium items a day.

The horrible condition of my town is very slowly sucking the enjoyment out of the game for me, but with all of these shops and shop upgrades, I'm not sure if it's worth it. What do you guys recommend? Should I keep chugging along? Or reset and try another go?

The shops will take awhile to upgrade again but are easy so long as you buy furniture and clothing, water flowers/plant trees, and donate to all 4 sections of the museum. The dream suite and club lol are easier in my opinion. It takes time to unlock PWPs though. It sounds like you've made up your mind already though.

If you do not enjoy the game anymore because of your town or whatever reason, then it's a big sign you needa restart. What's the point of playing when you hate your town?

Oh man, I can discuss resetting towns non-stop (because I've done it sooo often). I'm with the above posters: if you're really that unhappy with everything, then you should absolutely start over. It's no fun if you despise 90% of your town. I've reset so many times, it's ridiculous, but part of the fun for me IS resetting and starting all over from scratch.

Funnily enough, Main Street is never my concern when I'm debating starting over. It's so easy to unlock, even if it takes some time. Depending on how you play, it can be done a lot faster (TT'ing and such), but even unlocking things slowly over time is relaxing and a nice achievement to earn every once in a while.

What I usually do when I reset is make a list of things I want in my town layout. I never expect to get ALL of them, but they're just features to look at in each new map to help me decide which one I want to stick with (things like: river shape, retail/townhall/town square placement, waterfall facing, town fruit, et cetera).

Someone on Tumblr made an awesome guide on how to predict where rocks will show up in your town based on the shape of your square, trainstation, town hall, and retail.

Good luck!

Thank you guys so much for your input! I guess I'll be starting my town over today! And ashubii, I will definitely be making a list and looking closely at the link you sent me.

Glad to hear it! I might be resetting one of my towns today, too xD I only just made it last week, but I don't think I'll be content until I get apples as my fruit, and I keep getting stuck with oranges :(

this thread is like asking if you should break up with your boyfriend because of the way he's treating you badly but he has some little good things bout him too but not that much. of course you should reset your town if you do not like it at all

Well if you're totally not enjoying your town then I say go for it reset your town. You can easily get your shop upgrades faster if you don't mind time travelling by forwarding a day at a time

Funny you say that, because when I reset my town I got apples as my town fruit.

I first reset when I had overdone tree planting with no access to axes. Then again when my town fruit was the same as my husband's. I hope I won't be resetting anytime soon.

If you are really not happy with your town reset your town. I never reset my town before. Hope you find a good map that you are happy with.

xD I haven't reset yet, but keeping my fingers crossed I get Apples (and a layout that I like well enough :p)

Finding a good layout was hard, and 'm still having SOME doubts about the new one. But those doubts are shrinking, so I don't pay much attention to it.

I think that if you're feeling absolutely miserable with your town and it is making you unlikely to play, then just reset it. It'll take a long time to get back to where you were, but I think it's worth it if it'll make your playing experience more enjoyable.

Your map looks great to me but rocks can be so annoying ...
If the only reason for you to keep your town is your shops so you should reset ...

I think you have already made the decision for yourself, good luck with your new town! BTW, I actually really like your town map, but I think it's best for you to reset anyway. :p

I honestly struggled with the same thing for Nauiscaa, my first town. One of the things I considered was, that I will have to restart my catalog.. Unless i order everything my other town doesn't have, go touch it. THen I also have to make sure that I have Gracie Gracie in my other town as well.. I mean.. if you really don't like your town, then yea..
but if u feel like u can live with it, buy a golden axe. Chop down everything. and redesign it. Good luck!

If I was in your shoes, I would reset. You're not happy with your town layout or the villagers (well some you don't seem bothered about) cx But the shops arent a problem, they will unlock gradually. And if you really can't wait for them to unlock day by day then you have the option to TT. c:
