Hey guys, I wanted to ask your opinion on buying a second copy of the game. The main reason I want to do it is so that I can have a really tightly themed town (after lots of work, obviously), without losing my current town. I just know that I would regret deleting it, and watching it develop organically has been really fun.

For those of you who own two copies of the game, for similar or different reasons, what do you think of it? Is it too much work? Have you found it worth it?

Also, I will be buying a Japanese copy for my Japanese 3DS so that I can trade between them. This is probably a silly question, but that is possible across regions, right?

Thank you!

I think you totally should!! It's more work but can be managed with planning and being patient if you're not into time traveling :)

If your not into making the 2nd town another themed town, it would be great if it was a cycling town!
Either way, you should!
But it depends If you want to save your money ;3

Thanks for the reply! I'm not too keen on Time Travelling, but I find the reward after hard work to be well worth it : )

Do you find you're less attached to your second village? Does it make it easier for you to get it just right?

Luckily the Japanese version is cheaper than the Australian version, so that is a bonus : )

I'd really love to do a full fairytale theme- with different areas/houses/rooms (however I decide to do it) based off of different fairytales that I love. It may not be the most original idea, but fairytales really mean a lot to me.

I can't really say...
I reset my 4 year old town, partially due to the fact that I hated it and I didn't have a second copy on me.
I KINDA regret it, but once you get things going, you won't ;P

Honestly No.
It dosent make sense (to me at least) to have 2 or more copies.
Because I feel like it becomes like an addiction.
*Buys 2nd copy* then buys 3rd and so on.
You will keep having a new "themed" town ideas every single second/day/week and it's really going to be frustrating to buy more and more copies.
The game is designed for a 1 player basis town. Which means that the town Is supposed to go through the good and bad days with you.
After all it's your decision and it's your money. Do what makes you comfortable. :)

I think I'll probably really regret resetting on my current copy. I get ridiculously attached to things (part of my mental health issues I believe), and I am still loving the town. I just sort of want to spread my wings a bit, if that makes sense?

Thanks for your input. I totally see where you're coming from. I worry that if I buy a second one, I'll end up spending so much time on that one, I'll never visit the town that I love. I suppose there is a possibility to just completely refurnish my house for the different fairytale themes I want to do. I'm not sure...

If that's the case then it's totally fine. : )
Speaking of mental health issues I have a bit of OCD actually. At the begging of the game When tom nook places my home. He usually slides it up a few millimetres away from where I wanted it to be and I end up resetting because I want my home to be on an EXACT spot. Anyway! Since the welcome amiibo is only 20$ Its quite cheap. Go for it! Buy it and create your magical town. : )

I have mild OCD as well, and it is so frustrating when things aren't quite where you want them to be... I have that problem in HHD sometimes, mostly with landscaping... I think part of the reason I get attached to things is because my anxiety blows even the smallest change out of proportion for me. I like things being familiar (don't even get me started on big things... I can be a real mess sometimes).

It is really cheap at the moment, which was another reason I was considering it.

Personally since I don't have time to go on both towns everyday I time travel back in time at least for my main town. When you have a second town you start to neglect your main because there's not as much to do! But I think it's worth it. It won't become an addiction esp when you've had the other town for a long time and this one will take time to develop and soon a new game will be out in hopefully a few years or less :-)

It is a huge struggle tbh. for example if I buy an ugly shirt in ac then I might want to reset my whole account since my inner feelings keep telling me that once you've bought an ugly shirt you have an "ugly" or perhaps NON-perfect account history.
Another issue is when donating collectables to blather / museum. I feel like I have to donate fossils ONLY. Because if I donate bugs or fishes then I would feel Imperfect. My mind keeps telling me that I should be organized rather than useful. That's why I REALLY hate real life simulators since they keep giving you junk.
I've played HHD and it was a night mare. I felt like everything has to be on the perfect spot. If not , then I cannot sleep and I will keep thinking about it. Seriously I find games usually frustrating rather than fun.
I can keep on going. The issues I just mentioned are really small compared to some big fat ones that face me in real life.

That all makes sense. I think that it would be something that I would enjoy really. It will probably be like now, in that I play for a week or two nonstop, then taking some time off, or only play every few days. It is a perfect game for me to play in small chunks of free time, or when I feel stressed. I have found it great when I need to do something, but I can't focus on a story based game, or a book.

I am really looking forward to a new game. I would love to see what sort of stuff they come up with to include. Hopefully some of my friends will actually get into it. I don't know anyone that plays...

That all sounds really frustrating. It's a shame that things are more difficult in your real life as well. It can be really hard to live with mental health issues, and sometimes people just can't understand how debilitating they can be.

If you've got a fairly established town that you don't want to reset and lose your progress with, then a second copy of the game is definitely an option in my opinion. It allows you to replay the game, without loosing any of your old content and progression. It also allows you to test different looks and ideas without having to redo your existing town. And as someone else mentioned, it can also be used for cycling, and storage.

Plus if it is something that can be used as a method of dealing with your mental health issues, even a slight addiction can be better than other negative alternatives. Just be aware of coping mechanisms, and take come self care.
