The WEIRDEST thing just happened

A random bucket just appeared in the middle of the plaza? I opened my airport gates to let someone drop off flowers and then afterward went to my house, went through a bunch of my clothes to change into, and then tried to visit a dream island. Of course, since my airport gates were still open, I couldn't dream. I go back to close them, running through the plaza, and see... this?

So I just looked it up. Apparently seeing that means that villagers will soon be around to burn sparklers. The bucket is decorative, but for that reason.

Yep, can confirm, that's a sparkler bucket. I've seen my villagers gathered around one in the plaza with lit sparklers before. Isabelle probably hounded them about littering, so they're very careful to let her see them disposing of them properly lol

When the sparklers burn down, they're still hot. Isabelle doesn't want anyone to get burned, so she has everyone drop their burned out sparklers in the bucket before they can get another one. My mom used to do that for me and my brother and sisters forty-five or so years ago (tempus fugit).

i'd imagine it's like when the bench or the stools appear on the plaza! just randomly generated there

That’s definitely an idea! Know the question is why a bucket specifically? I can’t think of any villager activities that use buckets

so far I've only seen the bucket there while villagers are using sparklers so I suppose it's for them to put the burnt out sparklers in! or just there in case a fire breaks out haha

i'm assuming they were playing in real time, the same thing happened to me yesterday (Aug 10th) so I can assume it's august specific!

i think it must have a random chance of occurring during August? I had it yesterday but none of my friends did. just keep an eye out during august nights i suppose!

I think the reason you can't put anything in the plaza is because things like the bench, the bucket, K.K.'s stools, etc... can be put there when needed. The game needs that space open for events and villager things, so you're prevented from decorating it.

I imagine any night in August when it's not raining has a chance of them lighting sparklers.

I would love it if you could place items on the plaza like that. Though I do understand why you can't, not sure what would happen to them during special events like this. Maybe they could have your placed items go to your home inventory when there's an event? I guess that wouldn't account for if the inventory is full (which I have done in my last town, even with the fully expanded house...) so that might not work. But as everyone else said, it must be a sunday, the sparkler bucket! I thought that was just something my parents did as a kid to keep us kids burning ourselves on the still warm sparklers after they were done. but I guess it's a standard thing?

That's a good idea. Things should go into the recycle bin at the town hall if the game needs to use the plaza.
