Based on some gameplay videos, yes.

I can imagine it's just a ease of life addition and nothing more. Some people can be lazy like myself
With the size of the map being rather small, it would take more time to call Resetti, ask him to take you somewhere, and sit though the dialogue and cutscenes, than to just run there on foot.
I don?t think the ladder will break, I?m pretty sure only flimsy tools break. I doubt there is a way to get stuck on your island, unless you can place a villager?s home on a higher tier and you haven?t built an incline yet, then the villager approaches you and trades you something for your ladder. Thing is, villagers never asked for tools in previous games, so why start now?
Stuck terraforming? Nope. Just make a narrow spot on the river to jump over, or dig yourself out of terrain you may have surrounded yourself in (if that?s even possible).
The fact that they shoehorned Resetti into the game makes me hopeful that all previous NPC?s will be returning. Of all NPCs in the franchise, Resetti would be on the top of the list to be axed, as much as I love that mole. If the producers had enough mercy to keep Resetti employed with a moot fast traveling service, I don?t see them getting rid of the pelican crew, Reese/Cyrus, Shrunk, Harriet etc.
Maybe they?ve all been shoehorned into the game, or they?ve expanded on the services they once provided. Introducing features you can?t access until you?ve unlocked those characters.
The direct said "it's theoretically possible you could get lost or unable to move forward", which would indicate that getting lost is something that isn't likely to happen, but still possible.
An example would be to spawn in a co-op player and have them take your ladder or vaulting pole. When the player proceeds to pick up these items, they will be sent to the pickup box at Resident Services. You'd now be stuck there.
I find it useful to get saved when I'm getting chased by wasps sometimes. I forget to equip my bug net before I shake my trees from time to time.
