I didn't follow any timeline (even the one I posted) but if you're after a story, follow it.
I'm after a game, not a story, or I'd read a book.

Corn that's only a theory, there are billions of timeline theories, the timeline doesn't really effect the games at all since they all follow their own stories.

You don't have to follow a story at all with Zelda games because the only thing connecting them are small clues in certain games that can only be noticed with alot of research, the only times clear connections are seen is when they make direct sequals such as.
Ocarina of Time > Majora's Mask
Ocarina of Time > Twilight Princess
Ocarina of Time > Wind Waker
Wind Waker > Phantom Hourglass
Zelda 1 > Zelda 2

Well, I was thinking of getting OoT first *since most people recommend it* then Minish Cap *since it's the early story and it's for gameboy* I'll think more about it from then on.
