The future of gaming: good or bad?

Points cards and prepaid cards are very annoying since they don't allow you to get only the exact amount of money you want plus you have to go all out of your house to get them once you run out or short on points/money. Also, if anything happens to your game console, you will lose all of your games just like that.

That's why people have a problem with games going digital.

Only with Nintendo is that last fear valid. Microsoft, Sony, Steam, Origin and a slew a game services all lock games to accounts instead of systems like silly Nintendo. Sure if you call up Nintendo support they might be able to return lost games to you but it's not a guarantee. Point Cards are annoying and I'm glad that Microsoft is finally playing catch up with that, leaving only the Wii and DSi incorporating any sort of "Points".

I wouldn't mind digital so much if they were account bound instead of device bound. I mean, I bought New Leaf digitally but I worry that if my 3ds ever gets lost/stolen/broken I will never be able to see my town again. If it was account bound I could simply buy a new 3DS and log onto my account.

Here is the con to that. People might make accounts and buy games to give the usernames and passwords online so people can get them for free.

I can see that con but most people are too greedy to give out accounts for free. The person giving them out for free is out quite a bit of money when they do that. I'm not saying it wouldn't happen but in my opinion, it wouldn't be that bad. I mean, Nintendo is still making the money on the games being sold.

Also, I don't like Digital that much because I can't take my copies with me if I want to play them at someone elses house.

Which is why companies limit the amount of times your account can be activated on a device and if they spot 15 different IPs none of which are relatively close they'll close/freeze the account in an instant. Sony only allows 2 PS3s, 2 PSPs, 1 Vita (?) to be activated at any given time to cut down on game sharing.

I see no problem with DLC. If you don't want the extra stuff, then don't buy it. For example, I've played Fire Emblem Awakening and replayed it about 100 times (exaggerating a little, but still a lot), and not once have I wanted to buy the DLC, even though I can, since there's so much replay value. If you put DLC in a game like that where there's so much to do already, I don't see what you guys mean by "I have to buy it to be good at the game." You could easily just play any game for a long time, become really good at it, and take out people who buy the 'cheap' DLC weapons/ammo with pure strategy/skill/luck. The real problem in gaming these days is that nobody cares about the fundamentals of gaming anymore. Which are strategy, skill, and luck. All everyone cares about nowadays is which game is better or not; which game has more to play with;etc. The only reason game systems want to incorporate DLC is so everybody is not on the same field. If everyone could be equally good at everyone else in the game, the company would go out of business far quicker than having games where people are on different playing fields. It may seem boring right now, but it would be even more boring if everyone was equally good as another in the game. And sure, Nintendo might not link accounts to games like Sony and Microsoft, but they at least give a wider assortment of genres to choose a game from. Each company has their pros and cons, so who are we to judge that? Dang it. I am a gamer! And I value what gaming USED to be about. Not what people make it to be. Good day, ladies and gents.

I don't like just DLC because of the following:

1. If it is DLC that is being released when the game comes out, couldn't it just been on the game disc in the first place?
2. When the game is dried up and old, the DLC is likely to fall into internet obscurity. Just look at the SNES Satellaview games (if you even know what those are)
3. I personally like to have everything from the get go without having to pay extra money. This may not look like it to you guys, but considering the way my family is financially and how expensive games are nowadays, $60, $50 or even $40 is a lot of money. Heck, even $35 in a little pricey. I feel that whatever they wanted to add to the game should be put on hold for a sequel.

Oh, the problem I have with gaming as a whole is that a lot of companies have way too much stubbornness, selfishness and a lack of perseverance when it comes to releasing games overseas. Just look at games like Mother 3, Retro Game Challenge 2, Tomodachi Collection and Tomodachi (Freind) Collection: New Life (nobody even bothered to even consider to release the Tomodachi Collection games overseas).

Well I don't like DLC period. Paid or free, I don't like it.

Yeah, I don't like extra stuff either.

All your reasons against DLC comes from DLC known as "day one DLC" (Which is unfortunate and sucks but at times necessary for the developer.) Or just the fact you can't afford it.

In terms of graphics games are starting to plateau everything else in rising imo.

So...What's so bad about going digital?

Convenience, cheaper, faster. What's there to like?

Please find me a steam/xbox/psn/origin/anything account where I can play free games.

Um have you seen Nintendo's stock? :l

Highest it's been in 2 years. Nintendo aside, agreed Xbox is suffering, Playstation are being turds, but my opinion? As long as there are socially disinclined creative, competitive people in the world the gaming industry will continue to blossom.

Are you replying to what I said about Nintendo? Because that basically proves my point, thank you.

What does this mean? All the strategy, skill, and luck in the world do not make bad games good. Gaming techniques are a separate issue from game quality; people still care very much about those things when games are enjoyable. As a consumer, I make the best choice for me by being critical about all games; as a gamer, I enjoy games for what they are. These two facets aren't mutually exclusive.

And sure, Nintendo might not link accounts to games like Sony and Microsoft, but they at least give a wider assortment of genres to choose a game from.

Have you played many of other company's games? Not including multi-plats, I've been able to obtain platformers (LBP, Sly 4), racers (LBP Karting), RPGs (Ni No Kuni, Xilia), fighters (PS All-Stars), stealth games (MGS4), FPS games (Resistance), action-adventure games (Ratchet, Last of Us, Infamous), indie titles (Journey), etc., not to mention a slew of HD Collections and classics--from Sony alone. I listed examples to back up this claim. That aside, I cannot even acquire the majority of third-party games from Nintendo. I am not arguing that Nintendo lacks exclusives--they're an exclusives machine--but there is no genre shortage on other consoles, which is why I am not pledged to one company.

More on topic, though, I'm very pleased with the industry. Games have felt like a breath of fresh air recently, and I've found myself consistently enjoying titles coming from most companies. I don't remember that happening ten years ago. DLC has truly breathed new life into games I've already finished. Gone are the days when I had to decide between a platformer, another platformer, and a decent action game.
