The real problem in gaming these days is that nobody cares about the fundamentals of gaming anymore. Which are strategy, skill, and luck. All everyone cares about nowadays is which game is better or not; which game has more to play with;etc.
What does this mean? All the strategy, skill, and luck in the world do not make bad games good. Gaming techniques are a separate issue from game quality; people still care very much about those things when games are enjoyable. As a consumer, I make the best choice for me by being critical about all games; as a gamer, I enjoy games for what they are. These two facets aren't mutually exclusive.
And sure, Nintendo might not link accounts to games like Sony and Microsoft, but they at least give a wider assortment of genres to choose a game from.
Have you played many of other company's games? Not including multi-plats, I've been able to obtain platformers (LBP, Sly 4), racers (LBP Karting), RPGs (Ni No Kuni, Xilia), fighters (PS All-Stars), stealth games (MGS4), FPS games (Resistance), action-adventure games (Ratchet, Last of Us, Infamous), indie titles (Journey), etc., not to mention a slew of HD Collections and classics--from Sony alone. I listed examples to back up this claim. That aside, I cannot even acquire the majority of third-party games from Nintendo. I am not arguing that Nintendo lacks exclusives--they're an exclusives machine--but there is no genre shortage on other consoles, which is why I am not pledged to one company.
More on topic, though, I'm very pleased with the industry. Games have felt like a breath of fresh air recently, and I've found myself consistently enjoying titles coming from most companies. I don't remember that happening ten years ago. DLC has truly breathed new life into games I've already finished. Gone are the days when I had to decide between a platformer, another platformer, and a decent action game.
