1. what do you do with fake paintings? (does blathers take them?)

2. is he always on the island n do you only get on his ship once you talk to him?

Blathers doesn't take fake paintings, I personally display mine outside the museum.

He's only on your island twice, once when you get your first painting from him and the second time when he tells you about his boat showroom. All times afterwards Redd should only be on your boat until further updates

well that sucks bc i found a guide to fakes n real paintings right after i bought a fake one from his ship, so....

Blathers doesn't accept fakes in the museum, so I display my fakes. They're pretty hilarious (and haunted lol).

I don't think he comes very often, but he'll only come by after you interact with him the first 2? times.

Some fakes are pretty cool! My fake Rosetta Stone glows blue and there are some haunted art pieces so not all is wasted!

Blathers has never accepted fake paintings and this is still the case in NH. In past games, he'd be shocked upon finding out that what you were about to donate was a forgery and he'd promptly return it to you. Personally, I have yet to purchase a forgery for myself, but I'll probably just get the ones that interest me (ie. that one blue statue).

As the previous posters stated, you'll find him in his boat after the first two visits (ie. the day after Blathers tells you he's accepting art donations and the day after you've purchased a piece of art from him; he'll invite you aboard his boat afterward). After that, he'll show up randomly, so keep a lookout for his shop icon on your map each day.
