Tanning questions? :/

So, on a clear day, I tried tanning. I left my ds open for half an hour, and nothing. :/
I even took off my flower pin, but it probably doesn't make a difference. Do I need to be on the island? Or anything?
Can somebody who is tanned tell me how they did it?

It takes a few hours. My character is now a different race because I spent all day placing paths a few days ago lol. You don't need to be on the island (if its currently summer in your town. If its not, then you will need to go to the island)

My understanding is that tanning is gradual and whatever tanning you accrued today will show up tomorrow morning.

Go swimming in the Ocean island or town. I went swimming every day in my town for 5 minutes and within a day or two I was tan

I always have to wear a straw hat or else I'll turn very dark. :c Your tan won't show results until tomorrow.

The next day, the tan appears. Just be patient, it doesn't take 30 minutes to tan in real life, right?

Sorry haha. I read somewhere that you could see a change at 15 minutes.

Lol, you don't turn orange. You just gradually turn a really dark brown.
