actually, tag mode is only for local ds to ds play (within 100 feet or so).
to get together with someone from tbt, you need to use nintendo wfc mode (you'll need a router for this btw).
to visit someone, or have them visit you, you'll also need to exchange friend codes first and have each other registered.
