syncing HHD data??

When do you get the option to load HHD data into your ACNL game to get the giant furniture? does it have anything to do with the secret room upgrade?

I'm not 100% sure but I think you have to get the secret storage upgrade and then the next day Lottie will take you through a little tutorial and then if you save and quit there should be something on the title screen about syncing your HHD data
