I'm sorry I can't help as I am also looking for trees, but regular saplings can be started by burying a bag of bells (I think 1,000 bells or more) the more bells you place the higher chance of spawning a money tree.) ;-)

NP. I wasn't trying to stop a trade, just saying if you need lots of regular saplings and no one has them to offer, plant low amounts of bells and just grow regular saplings. Money trees only spawn bells once anyways. ;-) Have a good night

This is a really smart tip. o:

I'd forgotten about this feature, it's been so long since I've tried growing money trees.

Does it still spawn a sapling if you're not using a Golden Shovel?
