hi i'm still new to this game... but i also realize storage is a problem. do you have 2 3DS's? is this the only way to transfer stuff between your towns on your own (i.e. without help of another player)?
i read it is possible to have 2 towns and play them on a single 3DS, but with only 1 3DS we cannot transfer items to/from the towns, right?..

Stuff that I receive but don't want, even if they were non-reorderable, I sell at Re-Tail or I give to my villagers. I don't have a storage problem. 
I have two 3DS's. You can make 3 other players and place them in your town just as you did from beginning. You don't just walk up to them and interact. But you could build four mansions and increase your storage.
I sell everything I don't need. I pretty much only keep unorderable furniture and items. Plus, I have two alt characters and I keep a lot of sets in their house, even doubling up on them. (Like in one room, I have the bug set as well as the 7-11 set in there.) Plus I have the four rooms in the museum as well as my locker space and everything works out pretty well. If I ever run out of space, there is always gonna be the letters and I have three characters to do this.

I'm a massive hoarder, and i hate having to sell my stuff. So I got my friend to come and sell every re-orderable item for me!

Same here. Seems I have same issue IRL. As soon as I get rid of something honestly some need for it pops up. I don't like doing sales as computer glitches are so annoying. Going to hunt for someone who might want to buy in bulk for their shop. I'm staring at pile of leaves in my front room. >**<
thanks for the great tip! i guess if i use up all 3 character mansion space and exanded museum then i may consider buying a second 3DS lol. you must have thousands of items to need another 3DS!
i am a pack-rat IRL so i don't like selling anything either... unless the item is a common duplicate i will want to keep it >_<
oh, do the 3 other characters share the same locker with your main character? or do they each have their own locker space? (just wondering how to transfer items between them)

Someone on here should be able to explain. I don't have multiple characters. Not sure why not. When you turn on game you will pick which game character you want to be. My friend does this. I "think" you would put stuff on ground. Quit game. Switch characters then they could pick up stuff. Sorry I can't help. Anyone????

Yeah, that's how you do it.
I've also started resorting to alt characters for storage. There's just so much unreorderable stuff, and I hate throwing things away when I know I can probably never get it again - or it will be really expensive and/or cumbersome to get it again.

I just don't keep around any orderable stuff that I'm not using or didn't customize. I figure I can always order it again later if I want it.
Non-orderable stuff I hoard though. It requires multiple characters to hoard it all. O_O

I have a mega issue with keeping way too much furniture just because it's not reorderable and therefore "rare", so storage is a big problem. I just made another character to hold my extra stuff for now, haha, but when she fills up... not sure what I'll do.

I actually sell some of the non orderable items as I know I will never ever use them. otherwise I plop it on the ground in my museum as my storage is all filled up. It would be nice if we could reorder them.
