I just met a girl on the Island. She said she had a hacked town, and that she copied it from someone by visiting their dream town. Then she changed her story and said that hers was copied from someone she met on the Island and they did it by visiting her dream, and now her dream code is blocked because of it.

I have never heard of this and maybe she was pulling my leg, but it was kind of disturbing. Has anyone else heard of this?

Yup i've heard of this. I remember a lot of people being hesistant to share their dream addresses because of it.

Inb4 this thread gets locked (this is a valid question and is in no way glorifying hacking or explaining how to do it, so please don't ban me for answering)--

Yes, unfortunately this is a thing is done by only the most messed-up individuals. :( Nothing happens to the original town, dream town, or dream address, but the culprit does wind up with a copy of the dream as their "own." It has an entirely different address, and I think the contents of the homes are empty? Anyway, this happened to some Tumblr users, though it's been about a year since I heard of it happening. (I haven't heard of any of the original dreams being blocked or anything like that by Nintendo.)

So there should be no worries about it actually harming someone's actual town. It simply can't. It's just evil that someone would copy another's hard work.

Wow. That seems crazy that people can do that. Seems odd that someone would want to copy a town. What fun is that? I can't help but wonder if this girl really had copied someones town.

Stealing dream towns is no longer possible though, I think. Using the Dream Suite requires the latest firmware and the method to steal the dream town only works on older firmware :)

Well, that's just weird. Who would want a copy of someone else's town with empty houses? Also, does it override the thief's town? Like, do they lose their own town because they made a copy on their cartridge?

I think I would have been worried if it wasn't on the ISLAND. It could just be a little kid trying to mess with people for all we know.

I didn't even know this was a thing, wow. Guess you learn something new everyday. That does sound really unfun though, who would want an exact copy of someone else's town with empty houses? That ruins the point of the game which is building your own town.
