So, my kids got me into playing animal crossing. Back when my son first got the game, he played for a day, then my daughter wanted to be the mayor of her own town. So my son figured he could re-download the game on a separate sd card for her...well, this deleted his original town.

I wound up getting myself and my daughter our own copies of the game from the Nintendo eshop. We would like a 4th copy of the game but only have 3 ds's and at this point we all love our towns and are all afraid that our town will be deleted if we download a new copy.

Can someone tell me how to go about this and keep everyone's town safe at the same time?

Are the three games you own digital versions? You could buy the actual physical copy and play it on the same ds with no problem. I'm pretty sure you can't have more than one digital version on a ds, but I'm not positive on that. But I know you can have limitless number of physical copies and use them on the same ds. (I own two physical copies for 1 ds personally)

Only 1 digital copy per 3ds. If you don't have a 4th 3ds, but want a 4th town, it would have to be a physical copy.

Digital runs a higher risk of corruption, at least that's what some say. Not sure why, but it hasn't been fully proven.

Also, you can have unlimited hard copies on 1 3DS.

Then I'll definitely pick up a physical copy. This might be a dumb question, but can the sd card that has the digital copy on it remain in the ds when we play the physical copy?

I can't believe we'll own 4 copies of the same game but this is the first game that my whole family has loved. My son and daughter usually argue like typical siblings but when they play animal crossing together, it's so sweet.
