I find that many people of (course not everyone) has a song or numerous songs that make you feel emotional, sometimes even to the point that you cry. What I'm wondering is what songs do this for you, and if it's something you're comfortable sharing then tell why.

I personally have a weak spot for certain old country and gospel songs, they go right through me, a lot of times I can relate to the lyrics of the songs, but the tunes themselves are enough to get me. I heard a lot of old country songs as a kid, so it has a special place in my heart.

Songs that particularly get me are:

Angel Band by The Stanley Brothers, it's an old gospel song that really hits home, it's in a sense a person is singing as they near the end of their lifespan. Though it's one of my favorites, if not my favorite song of all time, it absolutely crushes me, when I hear it I think of losing friends and family, not really my own death.

Coat of Many Colors by Dolly Parton, it's a classic country song about a poor girl whose mother made her a coat from rags that were given to them to keep her warm, she then told her the Biblical story about Joseph and his coat of many colors given by his father that made him so happy, but the children at school made fun of her and didn't understand it. It reminds me of my mother and grandmothers who I love dearly. (It's actually based on a true event in her life).

A Love Without End, Amen by George Strait, this one is about the relationship between son and father, despite having rough patches, the father tells the son that he loves him no matter what. It reminds me of me and my own father, because I've had a lot of arguments with him but we're still close.

Three Wooden Crosses by Randy Travis, this one just gets me sometimes, it's a really heartfelt story, but I don't have any specific relation with it. It makes me think about how much each person's life matters.

Go Rest High on That Mountain by Vince Gill, another emotional song, it's got strong imagery that instantly links it with funeral services and lost family members and friends.

I like a variety of different music, but country and gospel songs just seem to be a lot more emotional in my view.

I was just thinking about this earlier.

Almost every song by Glen Hansard / The Swell Season (the band he's in) takes a dagger right to Grawr's heart strings.

Particularly because of an emotional memory I have with someone when I first heard him sing, but even beyond that - I think the music that cat cooks up is really genuinely melancholy stuff. In a really good way.

Bleeding Love, by Leona Lewis. It's not a happy song on its own, but it's not the song itself really that makes me upset, but rather, it was a phone call I received at work a few years ago while the song was playing on my iPod that pretty much shattered me to pieces. Ever since then, I can't listen to the song without getting incredibly emotional, because I always remember that morning being attached to/related to it.

Some songs from Fire Emblem Awakening just give me good feelings and such and this is one of them.

The ending song of the Futurama episode with Seymour. I think its "I will wait for you" that brought me to tears

I was thinking about that, too! I loved that episode, it got me sad when he was sitting there in the winter waiting for Fry.

Anyways, Serah's Memory is pretty sad to me. I like it a lot, though.

The Scientist by Coldplay - It's an emotional song on its own, but it makes me think of Walter from Fringe. Not to spoil anything for those who have never seen the show, but just...wow.

Possibility Days by Counting Crows - I don't know what it is about this song, but it just gets to me. That coupler with the emotion in Adam Duritz' voice makes it heart breakingly beautiful.

"Anecdote" by Ambulance LTD for ... personal reasons ...
Or anything by Damien Rice.

Into Your Arms by The Maine. It isn't a sad song on its own but there's a certain person I associate with it and now that we've fallen out it makes it kinda hard to listen to. These Four Words by The Maine is also upsetting to me.

You Belong to Me (not the Taylor Swift song) really hits home. Used this song as a poor excuse for crying about someone.

I have a lot of songs that get to me but off of my head:

Dissasotive by Marilyn Manson

Letter to God by Hole/Courtney Love (?is a cover?)

Anything by 'The Ark' I mean...'Racing with Rabbits, Disease, This piece of poetry is meant to do harm, and ..'It takes a fool to remain sane.' beautiful, beautiful vocals and lyrics in their songs. Def recommend them.

Cleansing Cream by Brown Eyed girls, even if you don't like kpop the music video + their vocals hits you and you may not know what they're saying....you know exactly what they're saying. That **** is powerful.

In that same vein, Jealous by JASMINE and Keibetsu ****eita Aijō by AKB48.

One of my favorite sayings: You are not a bird. I'd like you to walk on the earth with your feet. If you have a hardship, you have a future beyond. Time can serve as an eraser of your memory"
is from that song by AKB48 and even though I'm not a fan of the group at all the song and video is A++

Anything by placebo. Bosco, Speaking in Tongues, Commercial for Levi, One of a Kind, are a few I really enjoy, just off the top of my head.

Edit: Keibetsu Sh!teita Aijō lmao oops

When I'm in the mood, Love is Greed by Passion Pit can ****ing DESTROY me
Like, I will weep.

Its not even a sad song so I'm like wtf

Also, the beginning of Empire Ants by Gorillaz

Ordinary People by John Ledgend is not really a cry song, more like a tear up song

And if I'm in the right mood Hate to see your Heart Break by Paramore kills

Don't even get me started on Amy and Clara's themes from Doctor Who, and The Long Song.
