Ugh. Basically I visited the most beautiful dream world I've ever seen today and their map was perfect and their house placement was perfect and their villager house placements were perfect and their PWP designs were perfect.

And now I am just feeling really really bad about my town. I was new to the game and chose my map on the first try, just plopped my house down, and have never plot reset so all of my dreamies are in terrible plot placements...

But I don't know. I'm so torn. I'm truly so unhappy with my town now, but I've already gotten 5 out of 9 of my dreamies, unlocked almost every upgrade/shop, and I just don't know if I want to do it all over again. And lose all my stuff!

Ugh. What is your experience with resetting? Have you ever done it? Did you regret it? And do you have any suggestions or advice for me ;a ;

I reset a lot. In my first town I also picked the first map. This was my first Animal Crossing game and I had no idea how to ge bells and benches xD anyway, My town was just awful but I never knew that, I loved my old town. One day I got bored and restarted. I asked a friend to hold my stuff but I didn't thought about my villagers. I didn't know about dreamies and stuff.. Well I did regret it. I had the cafe in my first town (never had it ever since) and everything was gone.. But my 2nd town looked okay. I loved the villagers (Hamphrey and Cookie) and after awhile I didn't regret it anymore.. But then I got bored restarted etc. I should restart if I were you. You don't like your town. You can ask people to hold villagers.

I've reset a bunch of times, but that's because I am a very indecisive person! :)

I think sometimes, some of the best towns are towns that you wouldn't think have a perfect map, but the player has made wonderful regardless of that. If someone has a "perfect" map to begin with, that's already half the battle in landscaping your town. But if you have a map you don't think is perfect, it'll be more impressive if you make it look amazing!

Don't forget, the town you thought was perfect could have been a nightmare to the person who created it in the beginning. They might have originally had a totally different idea on what a perfect map is to them.

Also, you have a lot of dreamies! Try and think ahead to how you'll feel once you restart and don't have them there anymore. You could always do the thing where you ask someone to hold them for you, but that's a lot of dreamies to hold, and it'll just prolong the whole reset.

Do you think there are people here who would be willing to hold my stuff/villagers? And not like, steal it? ; a;
Honestly I want to reset I just don't want to lose my shop/museum upgrades ughhhh.
But if you've done it so many times and not regretted it... then idk. Maybe

Basically to summarise my post, I would say just be careful. Once you start resetting, it's easy to go in a downwards spiral and not be able to stop! I did that for a while, I would reset over the smallest thing, or if I got bored with my town.

I reset on the 14th of this month, hopefully for the final time! I'm just going to go with whatever things might go wrong or not be quite right this time, without resetting. :)

You're so right. I probably wouldn't try to save all my dreamies, just Fuchsia tbh ; - ;
Why does this game I love so much also stress me out?! lol. It's just a game!

I was like you, picked the first map, didn't know anything about plot resetting. I got all of the shop upgrades (re-doing graci'es fashion checks are still scaring me a bit) and the found all the fossils for the museum, was only missing a couple of the bugs, fish and sea creatures. I loved 8 of my 10 villagers. But my map was horrible. So I reset only a couple of weeks ago and so far I am not regretting it. I did have a friend act as a storage unit for me while I was hassling around with finding the townmap. And I think that helped me decide, to have someone willing to hold on to my most precious items and hybrids for me :) I love my new map, and I'm more aware of the choices I have now too, so I really recommend resetting if you are that unhappy with your map. But I would say to take a serious thinker first, if you need a storage unit I won't mind acting as one for you, as I know how much it helped me I would love to pay the good deed forward :) But take a thinker first, make really sure it is what you want. I thought about it for nearly a month before I decided for sure that it would be worth it.

I restarted. Was unhappy with house placements and the caf? and campsite spaces. I did transfers all my bells and most of my items because I wasn't restarting to re-do my entire bank savings/catalog, I just wanted a better town. I'm loving it so far, and since I have bugs and fish to catch again, I'm actually having tons of fun everyday, even though I time travel! This town, even though incomplete (needs more PWPs, villagers I like), is shaping up to be a thousand times better than my first town.

Find someone to hold your stuff while you restarted. I have two cartridges and got my bf's 3DS to do it all, but I helped a friend restart before, holding her stuff! I'm sure you'll find someone. Offer them some bells for the trouble.

Wishing you luck in your town development, whether you restart or work with your original town!

Give it a couple of days. Beware the downwards spiral of regret. Who needs perfection anyway? Little quirks are great. Yes, there are many you can trust but some will take your gold rod and run off, I know this. Depending on your personal situation, you could buy a second copy of the game! I've seen some fantastic towns and I'm not competing with them, I don't even time travel. It's just a game, not a burden, try to enjoy it.

Keep in mind that these "Perfect" towns require a massive amount of work to be anywhere close to "Perfect". It can take quite a while to get your town to where you want it to be, so restarting your town puts you back several steps. However, restarting is sometimes the best way to go. For example, I was extremely happy with my town (as I had Lucky+Marshal+Snake and a bunch of other awesome villagers) and a pretty decent map layout. However, soon enough I got bored with the town and stopped playing completely. Neighbors moved out, Villagers moved in and when I came back to play, Marshal and Snake had already left and I decided it was best to restart (as I had stopped playing for a couple of months) or else I'd end up getting bored again. From my own personal experience, I find it fun to have a new town every couple of months (minimal 6 to 8 months) since it gives you a fresh experience. Possibly a new native fruit, new villagers you may have never encountered before, a new map layout and more fun-yet-evil Nook Loans to pay off again. Oh and the museum since you can re-donate everything again. All in all, before you restart your town you have to really give it a lot of thought. Its not as simple as "restart just because" cause then all the regrets ensue. This happened on my first town of ACNL, the second town was when I took the long break and I'm now working on my newest (3rd) town. Good luck in your decision!

I think it's a phase everyone goes through. I've been constantly resetting for over a year, until I strengthened my resolve and forced myself to work with what I had. My town will never be as impressive as those fancy dream ones, but I'm really happy with it's progress. :)
I also hate plot resetting so the paths I have are surrounded by PWPs to ensure they're not trampled!

I reset my first town that I'd had for a year this past August, and I really regret it. At the time I was unhappy with the layout and how awkwardly things were placed, I thought about it for months and finally got frustrated enough to do it. And I haven't found a layout that I've liked enough to stick with yet. I've tried out a lot of them but most I end up resetting the same day. If there was a way to recover my old town I would totally do it.

I'd say, if you can, get another copy of the game and start a new town while still working on improving the things you don't like about your current town.

I second what the person above says: if you can, get a second copy of the game. You can get a map you think is really great and experiment a bit. In the end, you have to decide what you really want and what will make you happy.

Personally, I do not recommend resetting if your goal is to get a beautiful/"perfect" town. I felt similar to you for the longest time. I felt silly about my awkward map, I never reset my villager plots, my paths were a mess (still kinda) because I kept redoing them, and finding new ones. It took me so long to find a QR code that I really like!

But here's the thing, my town is pretty nice right now. I'm slowly making it my perfect town, discovering my style and how I like/want things to be. At this point I've put a lot of work into it and I get compliments all the time.

First of all, getting paths right can take a really long time. Second, I cannot tell you how many bells I've spent tearing down and building PWPs, chopping down trees and bushes, then cutting them down. Moving flowers around. Deciding which villagers stay and which villagers go. All of this takes time, whether you have a perfect map or not.

And this is just a game, but honestly most games are not relaxing! Most games are a challenge. And with a with a challenge comes anxiety, good days and bad days! If you have a bad day, just put the game down and do something, or resolve to do something in the game until you feel good about it. I would say first work with what you have until you do become extremely bored, like you've outgrown your town, like you've done all you can do to try and make it beautiful. This is only if you want an extremely beautiful, interesting, or unique town. If you don't really care about these things, just have fun and do what you want! LOL. That's the beauty of animal crossing, there are so many different ways to approach this game.

Just my two cents.

if u dont like ur own town, why would you keep it. itll be some work getting all ur dream villagers + shop upgrades/museum/catalog/whatever but u wont be happy if u try to improve a town u dont like
just reset
u can find a better map and plan ur town out better more, so u will be happy with improving it.
keep town u hate < start new town u will love

I've never reset my NL town, but I reset a bunch of times in WW. If you hate your town and feel like it's a burden: reset! Carefully choose a map that appeals to you. Bells are so easy to earn and you can obtain your dreamies again later on. You'll have fun earning those badges and PWPs if you actually like the town.

Oops, I forgot about your other question. You can choose to have someone here hold your things for you. Just be careful and check Wi-Fi feedback to find a trustworthy person.

I would never reset my town. Think of all that you will lose - a full museum, PWPs, hybrids, villagers you love.

My advice is to pick up a cheap second copy on ebay and make a second town.

I've reset my town before. The first town I got was the same situation with you, a terrible map since I didn't know I could choose otherwise. I grew lightly attached to that town but I took a looooong break. When I came back, I just decided to start fresh and clean. My second town had... kind of a better map. I still didn't think about map resetting so I just chose the best out of the five. I grew VERY attached to this town; I had no dreamies back then (because I didn't know what they were! Lol) but I loved almost all of my villagers. I had that town for several months before I took yet another loooong break... and deleted it again once I came back since I wasn't fully content with the way the map was. I was really sad while doing so, but boy was I excited when I started map resetting for my new one. It took around a week for me to find a suitable map for me, and I was so happy when I did. It felt so refreshing and relieving. I never thought I would delete the previous town but I'm happy I did. Now it's coming together very nicely and I wouldn't reset for anything.

Point is, if you really feel obligated to reset, do it. You'll more than likely feel MUCH better with a fresh, clean start. It's way better to be content with a town than unsure of a town.

I had a friend do the storage thing for me while I picked a new map as well - reset on 02/02 and only recently have I been wishing I took a little longer to pick a map. I've made so much progress with this one and have all my dreamies, so I'm not going to reset, but there are like... six ponds in the upper half of the map and it's driving me bonkers.
