so you got a five star island

I have been focusing on meeting new villagers after admitting to myself that Audie and Raymond aren’t for me after all. I am also working on collecting expensive instruments, arcade games, airchecks, and improving my home academy score. I also am further developing my northern portion of the map. There’s always something to do in AC.

I guess that depends entirely on what your personal goals are for your island.
For me, I want to theme and design my island all the way through. I hit 5-stars over a week ago but have only finished about 20% of my map, so I still have much to do and a long way to go before I'm "finished" with my aspirations.

I tore down my five star island maybe a week ago, and then rebuilt it back up and hit five stars again last night. Once I’m finished with my museum area I’ll still have tons of bells left over, I’d really like to help people pay off their inclines and bridges

i really grinded for 5 stars and it does not look like any of the beautiful 5 star islands you see on youtube/ig/etc hahah. definitely need to continue making it look actually nice/themed!

A 5 star island doesn't necessary mean that it's finished. To get it 5 stars, the game simply wants to have you to have a specific amount of trees, flowers, fences, furniture, etc... around the island. Your island can be like 50% undeveloped and still get 5 stars. Thats what happened to me lol when I randomly found a lily of the valley one day.
So since then I've just sorta just continued to plan out my island and what I want to have on it. Currently working on a spa area, which when finished will work on a forest path area next

I haven't reached 5 stars yet, nor have I tried. It's not my endgame goal. I'm more focused on trying to get my island the way I want it to be. I have the feeling I will naturally reach 5 stars with what I plan to have in the end.
I enjoy the AC series for collecting too, not just customization. I'll still be busy trying to collect all of the items and all of the colors, I'm sure. I also have the goal to get every single hybrid by myself for the first time ever, finish the museum, and get everything in the Critterpedia. I'd also like to complete all of the main (not +) Nook Miles goals.

I got my five star island over a month ago, and I've still been working on my town almost daily 
Whether it's decorating the town, trying for hybrids, or cycling villagers to get ones I haven't had before.

I'm currently VERY into hybrid-raising. Have had my 5-star for approximately 3 weeks now. As long as I keep seeing those LOV's, I know I'm still making the grade, which makes me incredibly happy. I worked very hard for my 5 stars!
Well before I destroyed my town for terraforming, my island was 5 stars even though my island looked terrible and now I think I have 4 stars now. But it’s ok because I can get it again in the future and at least I have the gold watering can and some Jacob Ladders.

I specifically placed all manner of "nonsense" all over my island to reach the furniture cap or whatever to push my island to 5 stars. Got the DIY and immediately picked back up 90% of what I had placed because I wasnt sure if my final idea would be easy to get 5 stars on. (Namely, surrounding every possible bit of my island with a double waterfall, except for entrances at the cardinal points.)
I've replaced about 60% I'd say, but I still have yet to get back to 5 stars, so I still have 0 lilly of the valley.
My partners island on the other hand has been 5 stars for a long while and she has a few lilly of the valleys. Which I'm kinda jelly of, and I hope I can get it back up to 5 stars soon. But they've been working me like crazy at work (day 4 of 12 hour shifts this week) and my partner has been able to put like 100 more hours into the game than I have, hehe~.
