Not strictly from a design standpoint, but also sort of an activity one? I?ve rarely utilized the dream visit function because most of the time I?m not sure what to /do/, and it occurs to me I may just be missing cues people have left of ?hey here?s a thing to do!?

So, what makes a good dream town? Is it a preferred move to leave things for people to find, or themed clothing or something? How much of a requirement /are/ paths, really? And what do y?all do when you?re visiting dream towns?

Thanks for reading! ^^

I think the "famous" dream towns/addresses are popular for reasons such as the creativity (PWPs, landscaping, etc.) involved as well as the possible activities. I get bored by horror towns with mysteries/plotlines though---just not my thing.

It's pretty subjective though of course---some people prefer more "structured" towns while others prefer open/"cluttered" ones. I like to visit both types (more so "open" ones since mine is very structured) since variety is nice. c:

The dream towns I enjoy visiting do have a theme (i.e. tropical resort, winter holiday, spooky/macabre, kawaii/pastel, etc.) as well as outfits and accessories available to change into which enhance the experience. Then, the houses and characters in the town are interesting to me as well. I don't mind if there are no paths but it does help navigation-wise. I get lost easily while exploring in-game. Some people alternate (custom QR code) tiles and clovers as well as other landscaping items which works out nicely.

I usually don't talk to villagers in dream towns but I'm trying to do it more. Other than that, it's all about exploration and gaining inspiration for my own town's dream address.

My favorite ones have some sort of plot worked into them. For instance, I know there was a horror town (I'm blanking on the name) that had a secret killer or something, so you would dig around in the dig spots and find skeletons and discarded children's clothes and whatnot. It was so creative!

I also really like towns that are just aesthetically pleasing. I've been to many that I've really liked just because everything was so cute! Meticulous planning and an eye for design can go a long way.

That being said... I don't think there's anything specifically that will make a good dream town. If you're proud of it, that's all that should matter. What people like is so subjective that there's always going to be someone who likes your town and always going to be someone that dislikes it no matter how much work you put into it. I wouldn't strive for a "good" town, just one that you enjoy running.

From my experiences, I love towns that have a lot of creative designs and PWP placement.

Deliberate placement of flowers makes a huge difference imo. Having them all look like they are meant to be there can really elevate the town.

For me, I like towns that feel "finished" and have an order in some way. So like for my town, I either have paths or flowers or shamrocks placed on the ground in a deliberate way to achieve a somewhat "messy" yet ordered look. The paths will take you around the whole town. I also have trees, pwps, etc placed in spots that were carefully thought out.

It all honestly depends on the person. I like dream addresses for houses mainly. I like to see theme houses with color schemes, and i don’t like clutter. I also don’t like set only rooms. With the landscaping, I like paths laid out or natural paths (but some direction that is plain obvious to me to know where I need to head over to).
I also like finished dreams. I tend to only visit finished ones.

Preferably I liked themed towns and themed villagers.
I like rearranged flowers and set color schemes. I don’t like flowers everywhere and with no pattern.

I like to visit dream towns just to see what other people have done with their towns and get some inspiration for my own sometimes. I prefer visiting finished, or mostly finished, towns for this reason, but sometimes it only takes a small area to spark an idea, so I'm open to visiting work-in-progress towns as well.

I look at everything when I'm in a dream town. I follow paths if they exist, but stray off them to look for potential hidden treasures. I go in character houses to check out how they are decorated. I talk to all characters and villagers and try to catch the villagers at home if possible, in case the player has done anything special with the villager homes. I run down to the beach to see if anything has been done there, but the beach is probably where I spend the least amount of time unless it's obviously decorated.

I think stories and games are neat additions to a dream town, but I consider them a bonus rather than a necessity. Paths are great because they give the town a flow and help you navigate, but again are not a necessity. Sone towns work with a more open feel and that's okay, too.

So I think the best thing to do is just create a town that you are happy with and that makes you proud.

I like to see fully furnished houses that don't just use matching sets in the rooms. And as far as landscaping goes, I just enjoy seeing the different ways people like to do it. As long as it feels finished and developed. I don't really mind if there aren't any clothes for me to wear since I could just put on one of the dress patterns I designed. However, if you are going to put clothes for the dreamer, you should try to have options for both boys and girls so people can choose :)

My ideal dream town includes these things-

•Some sort of path system, weather minor, major, natrual dirt or QR.
•A central theme to base most everythin else off of.
•Well thought and placed houses, pwps, landscaping, ect...
•Well designed house interiors+exteriors. I've been to plenty of dream town where the outside was very nice, but all the houses in the town were empty :/
•The humans dress and say things to match the general theme
•Clothing to wear is a big thing for me. I dont like wearing the pajamas all the time, so if no clothes are available, I'll change in one of my QRs.
~•~Bonus points if~•~
•Your designs orginate in that town
•Your villagers fit the theme
•Your villagers clothes/sayings/house exterior & interiors for the theme also.

Anything can make a town a good dream town. Like a couple other people have said, it's what you want it to be. As long as the town is the way you want it and you are happy with it, then it's definitely a good one. :)
