Snowtyke disappearing?

I'm really confused. I built a snowtyke perfectly and he said the usual stuff about his entire family being here and sending me a letter tomorrow, so I went off to catch some snowflakes to give to my snowmam to get some ice furniture. When I came back a few minutes later, the snowtyke was gone? Is this normal? Has it happened to anyone else and will I still get my letter tomorrow?

Was the snowtyke right next to a river, tree, etc? Sometimes they move to the side, and if they're next to some sort of object they disappear.

He was in between my snowboy and my snowmam. Is that why?

Yeah, you can't build the snowpeople next to each other. They need all the squares around them to be empty.
