I'm surprised there really isn't a guide on how to build a snowman in the gamecube game.
You can't pan camera, like in the other games, to see if it's big enough. You have to guess.

How do I get a perfect snowman and can I get items from him in this game also?

You can't do it in WW either, just in CF and NL.

I can just easily tell by putting them in a spot where I can see them, and if it looks right, I just plop them onto eachother.

The head should be slightly smaller than the body but not by a great deal. The game's usually not too picky so it's all good.

It's more trial and error than later games, but at least you can destroy it if you don't like how horrible it looks!
