Now, how exactly do we do this? I've never really sold a villager before. Gamefaqs rules are:

When trading/paying for villagers don’t pay a single bell unless you see that villager is packed, then go out, pay what you have in your pockets and then talk with the villager, then pay the rest of the agreed amount.

Or are things on Bell Tree done differently? Let me know when youre ready!

i've honestly never bought a villager on here, but that sounds good to me? give me a few minutes to get all the bells

I would just say let the host take you to the villager first, talk to them and when they agree to move in both go to train station and then pay. The host can flick the wifi switch if anything funny is going on they aren't comfortable with. Some hosts require you to pay first tho so it really just depends on the person. There's no way you can get scammed tho if you talk to the villager first.

I had thought about that too, but then couldnt a potential scammer also just flick the wifi switch as soon as they get the moving villager to agree to go to their town?

Not that anyone here is a potential scammer, im just wondering for future reference.

i wouldn't mind paying what's in my pockets and then going to talk to her and then paying the rest? if that's okay with you? and i'm not sure the other person flicking off the wifi would do anything... but i'm not 100% sure about that so
