silver axe question

I'm under the impression that the silver axe lasts 136 chops. I have been doing some serious landscaping in my town and chopped about 2 trees all the way down with the silver axe then began doing 2 chops with my golden axe then the final chop with the silver so I can try to get a heart pattern all around town. Even though I'm using my golden axe I'm going through these axes like water. My question is, does the final chop to the tree count as more than one?

I've never heard that you can chop down 45+ trees (136/3 hits per tree) per regular or silver axe. I can usually get about 10 trees (~30 hits) before the axe (regular or silver) breaks. Using the silver axe for the final hit only counts as 1 hit.
My trick if you want a specific pattern...
Of course, use the gold axe for the first 2 hits and the silver for the final blow...
But Save & Continue then open the town gate before you do any chopping.
If you get the pattern you want (like the heart) then Save & Continue...
If not, flip the wi-fi switch and you go back to what things were like before you opened your gate.
Meaning the silver axe has that 1 hit back. Then just open the gate again and try again.
Might take a while to get all hearts, but you won't waste your silver axe.
