I really hate being negative. I'm a nice person who hates confrontation or anything along those lines. However, I'm fuming right now and I needed to know if this is a common thing for others to have happen to them.

I tried to do a flower giveaway thing and I told everyone there what flowers they can take. I look at my town now and they've taken things I didn't say they could and I even watched as one took a type of flower I didn't say thing could have. I'm not going to post negative reviews this time as I can't say for certain who did what but next time I'll just close the gates for everyone I think.

Or what would you do? Has this happened to you before?

I tried to go to bed earlier, but you know... the internet never sleeps. Oh no, Akane... I'm so sorry that happened. I was there in the train station when you cut the connection and I was really worried for your town. Some people are so mean! You have a perfectly good reason to be negative, so if you have to go rampaging, GO RIGHT AHEAD!
Is there anything I could do to make it better? I could even bring the one pink carnation back :p

I don't really have any advice. I just want to say that it really sucks that someone would do that, and I'm sorry it happened to you.

I've never visited with more than one person at a time (in my own town, at least) for that very reason. Too many stories of people getting their towns wrecked. However, I don't think you should let it stop you from having groups over, if you still want to.

Hmm...the only thing I can think of is to let everyone know in advance that once everyone has gathered their flowers, that they need to wait somewhere together (in the plaza, maybe) while you do a quick check of your town to make sure everything is OK...and then if someone does leave, you know they weren't being honest. And if anything is missing, you know one of them wasn't being honest, and you can flip the switch. But then you won't know which ones were innocent, and who to let back in...man, this is hard.

And yeah, closing the gate after everyone would probably be the best thing to do. It would get pretty tedious, but some people just don't have respect for others. Or you could only give your fc to people through a private message. That way you know for sure who is coming and going.

Thank you so much everyone! It's people like you that keeps me coming back to this site. It sucked, yeah, but I'll be okay. I'll probably just stick to having one person at a time as I get easily overwhelmed. This was a good learning experience for me, though. /hugs/

Aaaaa, man that really sucks, I'm so sorry that happened to you! ;^;
What was taken from you? I don't mind giving you some flowers, my town is overrun with them anyway

You have every reason to argue :)
The only time that I have a group it's for my cycling town so they can weed it but I stay close to my perfect orange tree so they won't shake it
I mostly don't talk but always check
Also in trades that I can't have the time to talk
I just leave my gate open and look at them
But don't talk because I'm very picky person if they take something without permission

Really sorry this happened to you. Something similar happened when I had an animal crossing party after class at college with some friends and some of 'their' friends totally trashed the majority of my pink and purple roses and then left! I was so upset and have been careful about letting a ton of people I don't know very well into my town since then.

add me and my friends! we respect other peoples things :)
hey wait! youre never on LOL

That's so disrespectful, it's awful that there's people on this forum who are kind enough to do give-aways only for people to take advantage of their generosity. If anything, they should respect the person who's giving them these free things since it may be hard to obtain otherwise. It's even more shocking, that after telling people what they can take, they still choose to break that rule and do whatever they feel like, I think those people need to be a bit more empathetic towards who's hosting the giveaway, and understand if they cannot take stuff, they shouldn't because they wouldn't like it done to them so why do it to someone else? I'm sorry this happened to you. You're genuinely a lovely user, so I can't imagine why this would've happened to you.

I personally only let one person into my town at a time, unless they're good friends that I can trust to be out of my line of vision. I always do a walkthrough before letting someone into my town so I can be sure that everything is in place when they leave and I do second walkthrough (checking less obvious spots like behind my windmill that I can't see when I'm standing in front of it). It's a little time consuming, but this way, I can be completely sure if one particular person stole from me.

If you're doing a giveaway, I'd recommend putting your flowers, or whatever else you're giving away in a spot away from everything else (beach for flowers, town square for other things, maybe), ask your visitor(s) not to wander off, and let them know that you'll flick the wifi switch if they do. Give them no other option but to respect your town and your rules, and they will. Or they won't, and they'll be banned from your town.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I know the feeling, I've hosted giveaways on other sites and some people had the nerve to steal blue roses from my town and dumped spoiled turnips. ;^; It hasn't stopped me from doing giveaways but it did ruin the spirit for a good while until I felt comfortable hosting people again.

If you do a giveaway, I recommend requiring people to list their mayor and town name so you can keep better track & possibly host 1 person at a time. It'll take longer but it saves so much stress and if anyone tries something fishy, you'll know who to leave a negative review.

Don't hesitate to leave negative wi-fi reviews if people try to steal or destroy your town or give you a really hard time. I'm sure there's others who would rather know the truth of a player's behavior. If it goes unreported, then there's always a chance they'll try it again with someone else.

Either way, feel better. ;v;

I would definitely, for next time, hide all the stuff you dont want people to take. I dont want to not be trusting but come on, it just makes me feel better.

Sorry that happened to you. :C Dont let a few bad apples give you a bad outlook on the site!

I don't blame you for being upset at all. I would be too. I do almost envy people who can throw open their gates with trust and live with what happens. It is a game, and some mayors can live with the problems that bad apples can bring. Because I would be upset though, I work to prevent problems. I delete visitors immediately from my friend list until I have dealt with them often. I limit the people I don't know in my town. We trade at or next to the train station. If they are adopting a villager, I go with them. And if I lose track of a visitor in my town, I cut the wifi. It's not hard to prevent problems, but it's a shame you have to be less generous than you'd like to be.
