Hello all :D

About two weeks ago I bought a regular 3DS in cosmo black just for New Leaf, and so far I love the system! Before I made the purchase I was concerned with the resolution quality difference between the small one and the XL, so I tried out the one in-store. I loved the screen size of the XL and it was very comfortable.

The game they had on display was the new Donkey Kong Country which was whatever, but I found myself very bothered by the graphics/resolution quality. DK's body was riddled with square pixels all over his monkeyness and the palm trees didn't look very smooth. I tried to see past it but I kept noticing it as I played.

So...I bought the regular 3DS thinking the pixel density would be better. It seems like it is, and I like it. BUT I'm curious if any of you had this system and then got an XL. Do you notice any difference in quality?

People consistently recommended the XL to me, but I figured, nah, they're not as meticulous as I am so I'm just gonna be disappointed. Well, now I'm questioning my purchase because this little guy is cramping my hands up and think I should have listened lol. My 3DS is in flawless condition so selling it won't be an issue.

Anyway, thanks for your input!

I haven't tried the regular 3ds, but I'm very pleased with my xl. I'm not noticing any flaws with the graphics.

I have almost the same concerns as you. Both of my friends who used to have a regular 3DS upgraded to the XL, and keep bothering me to as well xD I noticed the graphics difference...but darn that big screen, it really does look nice.

I upgraded and am very happy with my 3dsXL. The screen just feels so much better.
I waited for there to be some kinda of 3ds xl sale and traded in my 3ds to help pay it off.

Despite the larger size, the 3DS XL has the same screen resolution as the 3DS, so games that don't include any kind of post-process anti-aliasing are going to look more jaggy on the XL. I still find the larger size to be my preference- everything from decreased eyestrain thanks to the larger picture, and placement of the stylus sleeve makes it worth it for me.

I got a 3DS XL first, but then I played my friends 3DS and it was tiny in comparison! I haven't noticed anything wrong with the graphics. You could trade it in so you'd get money off. I feel it would be not so much to call it a waste getting a 3DS first then immediately upgrading, since it would be a "waste" of money, all for a bigger screen, but if it's more comfortable game play, then I feel it's worth it.

I have a 3DS XL, and I have no problems with the picture quality, but I've heard comments that the XL screen is bigger, but there is no change in resolution. Basically, it is the same resolution except the screen is bigger.

I haven't had a regular 3DS. Before my 3DSXL I have a DSiXL. And after having that I knew I wouldn't go back to a smaller sized screen. And let's be honest, DS's aren't known for their great graphics quality, it's all about the good, fun gaming. I'm not sure what the different is between the two sizes, but I'm definitely happy with the XL and wouldn't choose a smaller one in the future.

I'd stick with your 3DS. If you like it, keep it. If you really want the XL, trade your 3DS in and get the XL. Don't always get based off recommendations by your friends or others people; think about if you really want it. I have the 3DS and I'm fine with it, though I'll upgrade soon because my hands are getting bigger.

Mostly, I got the XL because of eyestrain. I checked out the demo when the 3DS first came out, and I couldn't handle trying to focus on such a small (IMO) screen. I waited for the XL to be released. IMO, the ultimate question is, are you comfortable playing on your 3DS? If you're not, and it hurts your hands/eyes, then definitely trade it in. Playing games should not cause physical discomfort.

I had the regular 3DS and to be honest I found it uncomfortable to play. It's almost TOO compact, and I've tiny hands.

I upgraded to the AC 3DS and I'm so glad I did. I think the game looks amazing on the large screen. Definitely worth the extra money.

It's up to you. I mean, you did just get your 3DS, but if the size is really bothering you you should upgrade.

I've been thinking about getting an XL but aside from the size I'm not fond of the body (it feels like a cheap plastic toy) so I'm waiting for a special bundle version that I can't not get.

Gaahh see that's what I'm talkin about! Haha. Ya, I love the idea of that big beautiful screen!

I use a normal 3DS and have no issues with eye strain. I also notice no difference (Besides screen size) compared to the 3DS XL.
You JUST bought a 3DS...Kind of a waste of money to switch over now.

Glad you like it :) Seems everyone is very happy with it!

I totally agree. It's killin' mah hands lol

XL is WAY better :3
The screen and resolution is better as well. I never even got a normal 3DS because the screen was just way too small and having to stare at it for long periods of time while playing certainly would give me headaches.
