Should I expand my house?

I'm torn about whether I want to expand my house? I like to think of my house as more of a cottage since my town is based on the area my cottage is in northern Canada. Here's what I'm thinking?

Pros for expanding

-More room options
-More storage options
-More opportunity for creativity

Cons for expanding

-Losing windows in the main room (this really bugs me)
-Loses cozy cottage feel

I'm leaning more against it, because all I really want now is a living room/kitchen, upstairs bedroom, backyard, and basement. What do you think?

I will say go for it if you want different kinds of rooms :) at the end of the day, if you want a cozier room, you can always create a second character for that, or vice versa

Just add a basement and an upstairs so you don't lose your windows, and it will still be somewhat cozy.

I agree with Skyhook, just add a basement and the upstairs and it will still look small enough to be cozy. :) And that way you'll have three rooms which is pretty decent for space. You could always create a second character later on for storage if need be!

You can use the losing windows to your advantage! I was a little bummed about that, but then I realized that there are so many cool things you can do with the lighting in your main room at its full expansion. Right now, my main room has a hot pink, almost red, glow thanks to the lamps I have in there.

You don't have to expand all the way, so you don't have to get all three extra rooms on your main floor (so you can still keep some of your windows).

If a cottage fits your character better, you could make a second character and expand their house instead. :)

Can you actually do that? I think Tom Nook will always give you the option to add a side room first before you can get other rooms. I could have missed something.

Personally, I love expanding my home for several reasons:

1) More room to decorate and to design several different themed rooms that I like that represent me as a person.

2) The HHA give points based upon how well the room is coordinated design wise and if you like to earn HHA awards as well as the badges, then expanding your home is a must.

3) I like the feel of a big house because I personally find each specific room "cozy" depending on how I had made it, and feel friends can explore a wider range of my home to "hang out" or to just "relax and talk" (Not saying a small home can't do this as it most certainly can, I just prefer a bigger house)

I feel that it would be best if you think this over a bit more until you really can choose between one way or the other. Once you pay off the house to upgrade a room, you can't in anyway, shape or form, go back to the original way it had looked before so choosing is very wisely. If you do feel you want to upgrade and keep a "cottage like home" then you could always add another character to your town to have a small house as well. I have the full four character limit, so I can choose to design however I want my homes to look without having to worry about just keeping one home looking one specific way.

If you really love your small cottage look though as you personally feel it gives you that "cozy" vibe, then by all means leave it. As the other BT members had previously stated as well, even if you just add a basement or an upstairs, it will still leave you with all of your windows as well as having a "bit more room" to decorate however you wish.
